ok the car is a 1962 ford falcon with the 170 ci inline 6, it was sitting for a few months due to brake problems, finally got the brakes fixed and working again and started the car up it started up fine and idled fine and everything until i took it to drive down the street it drove fine and everything but whenever i would come to a stop sign it would die out and now it will not idle. One thing I noticed whenever I got it back into my garage was whenever I would press the gas pedal the throttle gate would not open or close or move at all, which just left the throttle gate open at all times. Im guessing this could be part of the problem I have a picture of the linkage check it out if you see anything missing or have any suggestions let me know!
The real problem is that the idle circuit is plugged up from sitting and the crap fuel has turned to sludge. You'll need to take it apart and clean it - what is referred to as putting a 'kit' in it. Like Sunbeam said, the linkage shown is the choke mechanism and it shouldn't do much with the throttle.
