Northern and Western Pennsylvania dialect uses that form all the time. Car needs washed. Car needs restored. Just make it shorter and say: needs restoration.

Sorry, relatives from there make me crazy with that shit. They will also ask, "Is it raining yet?" when they really mean "is it still raining?" Youins are crazy.

I never considered it could be a regional dialect.
    It's spreading.

Almost every random random dude at a gas station or whetever asks me if my small block Chevy is a 327 or a 350... I start it up and yell over the noise - '400 inch Pontiac!!!!!!' Lots of dumbfounded looks.

When I went to Trade School here in Oz the rim was the round metal bit that you fitted a tyre to and combined they made one road wheel.

What drives me nuts is when people spell camaro "camero" in the auto traders or thrifty nickels. Used to happen all the time.

Calling an engine a motor. The starter is a motor; the windshield wipers are powered with a motor; your car is powered by an ENGINE unless it is an electric/battery powered car. Most cars are powered by internal combustion engines.

  15. Used to bug the shit out of me, too. Till someone pointed out:
    The Ford Motor Company
    Pontiac Motor Division (R.I.P.)
    Harley Davidson Motor Cycles
.38 Specials' song "rockin' into the night" (cruisng down the motorway.....)
We also drive on a parkway and park on a driveway.

  16. We also have engineers.
Do we now need motoreers as well?

I worked with a number of electrical engineers. Maybe they should have been Motoreers.

You seem to hear the term "Chrysler Product" quite often but you NEVER hear "Ford Product" or "GM Product". I've always wondered about that one.

    My favorites

"I am selling this for a friend and know nothing about the car"

    and

    "May run with some tinkering"

When people use "2-door" to describe cars like Corvettes, Camaros, GTOs etc. Oh Yeah, because GM made so many Firebird station wagons...

Yeah, I hate it when my front end has a 'geography' dispute and my front left wheel invades the right.

    Doc.

  28. I love when I spend a day to look at car for sale and the owner tells me..."I really do not need to sell it"! and "I really do not need the money"! WTF....the car is listed in just about every sell it magazine and numerous internet sites? :) Also, when they list the car as a "hardtop" and your looking at a sedan/ post car! Btw...your Mint condition is NOT the same as my Mint condition! :)

Ture - I looked at four cars this week that their ads claimed they had bodies in great condition yet everyone of them had both swiss cheese quater panels and major fender dents:eek:

I also like the ads where the owner claims he is testing the waters to see what his POS is worth - That is what eBay is for - trolling for suckers!

"engine looks like it was rebuilt" um ... someone painted it.

"No rust at all" This one really gets me when you can not tell what color the vehicle is/was because the entire thing is covered in rust ....What, surface rust does not qualify?!

And as someone else said "runs out real good"
