I've only been a member of HAMB for a short time, so I hope you folks don't mind me posting this here. If there's a problem with it, let me know and I'll drop the subject.

If you live in Minnesota, and drive a traditional rod/kustom/tail dragger/altered/gasser/chopper or bobber, please consider joining my yahoo group.
It's mostly there so I have an easy way to update folks around here on progress while I make arrangements to host a get together.

The main reason I started the group is because I am working on putting together a 'gathering' for traditional rodders in this area (Twin Cities, MN). I was hoping to be able to have this yet this fall (05), but it's looking like I'm going to run out of good weather before it will happen at this point (9-12-05). I will be changing my target date to some time late spring or early summer of 06.

I'm trying to tailor this event to a select group of rodders. The traditionalists, NOT the gold chainer 'street rodders' that hate having us in their 'I deserve a trophy because I have money' shows. I'm really hoping to make this a no fee event. If I can find a sponsor to pay for a couple of satellite toilets, it will be free to participants. If not....I will have to come out of pocket for the facilities myself and will need to recoup that cost somehow. The first time will be on the small side I expect. There will be no trophies, no judging, just a get-to-know each other kind of thing where we can share ideas and admire each others work. If it works, I'll do it again and maybe add some fun things like a band or two. If you're a pinstriper, feel free to set up and make a buck! If you run a business that caters to rodders, feel free to sponsor this thing and give yourself exposure to some customers!

The idea is to do a local event similar to shows like Hunnert Car Pileup; Paso Robles; Lead East, etc. We NEED a show here in MN for those of us that are generally not welcomed at today's car shows. Traditionalist rodders are frequently looked down upon by the gold chainers and billet boys. It's time we had our own show that excludes those that have excluded us.

If I've forgotten to address something, feel free to reply and ask me.
    Thanks!

I'm welcomed at any show I seem to go to but perhaps its my irresistable charm. :D Keep me posted on any future shows, the Pileup is a hard act to follow.

Itd be neat to have a real show close!

  6. You can count me in and I know a few of my "traditional" hot rod owning buddies in our car club would be very interested.

  7. I don't think our cars are looked upon in a negative light; The street rodders are jealous.

Seriously, if you had a decent event with only hot rods, the next year you'd better start some very picky entry rules or by the third year it will be just another billet fest. David

The nice thing, that offsets the headaches of trying to coordinate something like this, is that I can make sure it NEVER gets infiltrated by the billet boys. I'll be doing this in a setting where you can only get in and out in one place and have a couple of volunteers armed with 'the rules' for admittance. I plan to make it loud and clear what will be admitted and what won't during the advertising phase.
Don't get me wrong here.....I have nothing against nice street rods that have a lot of money in them at all. I love to look at rods like that. It's just not acceptable in this event. This one is for the low buck guys that worked hard to make something from nothing.

This isn't going to come anyplace CLOSE to being the Pileup....at least the first few times (and probably never). I just used that example so people would know what kind of cars are the target.

This is pretty much how the Pileup started. We were sick of going to shows and not seeing anything like what we were building or liked seeing. In true hot rodder spirit, we made our own show. If you need any advice, let me know.

FYI, entry criteria is NOT as easy as it sounds on paper, especially when all your door guys have a slightly different understanding of what "traditional" means. In general, people "get it" though.

Keep ramping your's up! I am hoping to even make it to your get-together if at all possible.....at least for awhile. The show I'm attempting here is very much up in the air and just in the planning stages now.
I absolutely appreciate help of any kind. I'm a one man show right now.

Yeah...there's tons of traditionals around in MN. It's just a matter of targeting them at some of the other shows around here. I think dropping flyers in cars that fit the bill is a start. A large percentage of the true rodders that I know personally won't have anything to do with internet forums so a lot of folks can get overlooked putting the word out that way only.

this is kind of the wrong attitude. Don't be hatin'. :D
You don't want to have a show to spite your enemies. You want to have a show to bring like-minded friends and meet new ones... and you can all pass out flowers and sing Kumbuya

  20. Stevie D....I don't know what Gerils are...but they sound too close to gerbils to me...and I am not about to flirt with those if you know what I mean....
    HAHA

The pomade must make you want to do wierd things.

Reminds of this weekend. I joined a true car show Sunday for something to do.

Entered the 54 chevy truck in 49-present stock category.

Lost to a 2005 Dodge truck with a Hemi and dang near went blind from all the chrome street rod motors.

Good luck to you all. Sounds like fun.
