I am curious as to the deal on the cowl vent scoop on his 32. I almost got to see it in person during the Brizio 80th birthday tour when they stopped at the Hot Rod Garage, but he drove off just as I started towards it. Anyone know the details?
Neat part. But not sure I'd want airflow under the dash all the time. He should invent a hinged lid that can open and close with a small handle on it.
I kind of figured it was something really trick. I agree with not wanting airflow all the time. Thanks for the education all.
Should be easy to feed into a duct with a flap valve. I would be surprised if Steve doesn't have something like that on his car, rain would be nasty Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
I prefer the original cowl vent,,open when you need it closed when you don't. Good rubber and a hose on the drain tube and I don't have any leaks. HRP
I agree with HRP, the original Ford design is the way it is and should be. Moal's scoop looks like an afterthought.
The fenders work for me style wise as they resemble some you see from early 30's sporty cars but the shiny part on them doesn't spin my wheels as I'd rather see them be the same color as the body or a contrasting color. I can't get real excited about the scoop though.
I could never figure out why guys filled the vent. In '91, on the way to Rhinebeck, with my 10 year old son, in my old 5W, we hit heavy rain at night, and the windows instantly fogged up. I popped the vent a little, along with the w/s, and rolled down the rear window, and it cleared up instantly. Ol' Henry had that defrosting thing figured out.
I don't have a '32, so I don't care how it works or looks. It seems like a good alternative, if you bought a '32 and the previous owner had filled it. What I do like about it, is all the other applications that it could have. Such as a small scoop for rear brakes. Mounted to a quarter panel, it would look nice. Or maybe a couple as small hood vents or a few parallel on hood sides. There's a lot of apps for that. I said apps.
True. With Moals legendary skills, I'd expect something a little more. Now it's got me thinking it does something besides catch air.
I would never think to add a bolt-on scoop to a cowl or anywhere else for that matter, and I would never think to make a set of aluminum fenders, polish them and add them to a Deuce coupe. Then again I'm not Steve Moal, or have his vision and talent, and if you have ever seen this car in person, it will blow you away. Sometimes you just have to think outside the box.
The rear rims and tires look small, Moal builds some great cars... But the cowl scoop and fenders just make me scratch my head . Why ?
