Moch up block............ Had an old aluminum block sitting around that was junk . Decided to gut it and lighten it with the Plasma torch. Not fun..........ruined a couple shirts and my pants in the process as the aluminum tends to jump out on to you. Anyway, after some quick stops to snuff myself out, I gradually got the bulk of the interior out. Made a flat plate for the bottom that will allow oil pan interchange easily and keep mice out when its parked in the shed. Then made another alum sheet metal cover for the valley and added some adapters for a HF engine tilter to be permanently installed. Bare block (no heads)weighed 120 lbs (per GM) when I started. Now with much of its innards removed and foam installed to fill the voids and keep critters out, heads installed along with the tilter, I'd guess it weighs somewhere around the same weight. The tilter will allow a trans to be installed while moching things up, and its a lot easier to move around than a complete engine. Headers can be test fitted too. Note: There is no crankshaft in it even though you can see the crank flange. Its just a stub and the foam grabs it and keeps it solid while it fills the hole.Thought I'd mention that so someone didn't question it weight. And it fits under the rack easily................
If that was mine, it would have a lift off Lexan top and be my coffee table. Not stored in the garage. Nice work.
Wife has different tastes than I do........ But she lets me keep my shop any way I want.........well most of the time anyway.
His English may be better than we think. Collins indicates that "moch" is a verb meaning to become spoiled. That block was moched up before he cut the guts out of it and repurposed it into something useful. Cheers, Harv
Lot of work but it looks legit. I bought this plastic block at an estate sale for $20 bucks, made by Russell (same company that made all the fake braided steel hose covers) I thought it was a great score. When I got home it somehow turned into the Johnny Cash song One Piece at a Time, "all the holes were gone", nothing was accurate about it. It does hold stuff for display purposes if you can get at least a couple bolts in LOL
You are correct, and thanks for telling me.............I thought I was impressing everyone with my esoteric knowledge and mastery of the English language. Boy, was I ever wrong. Seriously though, I'm glad to know that I somehow ingrained that in my mind incorrectly and have been doing it wrong for years.
You were probably watching the Six Million Dollar Man where he cleared moch V right before "it's breaking up ... it's breaking up"
