A quick question. What did you do to ensure that the 4 bearing bores in your rearend ended up in a straight line after all of that welding on the housing? After years of narrowing rearends I can ***ure you that the axle pulls way out of straight if it isn't fixtured while this is going on. Even then its sometimes necessary to press or shrink straighten after everything is finalized. Not trying to be a ***** as I noticed your a millwright and most likely very aware of the forces induced by welding. Frank
I used a rear end jig to get tubes to line up it uses a long bar and flanges that replace the bearings.I tacked the shock and ladder bar mounts and went to a friends shop and used his 1/2" steel table to secure the center ends, ladder bar and shock brackets using s**** angle iron and plate. I welded all the angles and plate to the table and bolted all attaching points to the brackets welded to the table. I then welded every thing up and let cool.
Did you shift the body aft on the rails.....was reading where you didn't necessarily have to pinch the frame at the firewall when mounding a 30-31 on duece rails. (Concerned because I am considering a similar build....30-31 on duece rails and had not planned on doing anything but bobbing rear of the frame rails.)
I believe the Model A mounting holes fell an 1" or so behind the holes drilled in the frame. Moved front cross member ahead 2" to make room for the Hemi.
