I'm purchasing this 28-29 model a coupster, but I'm curious as to what the firewall/cowl came off of. I've never seen the lower side panels scoop downward like this. This is probably common knowledge, but you don't know what you don't know! can anyone give me any insight here?
That’s a 28-29 cowl, I don’t know what’s up with the scoops. I’d strip all that filler off and fix it right.

Those look like they were reworked to correct a body gap on a different frame, like they were on a car with the wrong fenders or aprons or something and someone just built a little filler into the bottom of the cowl to make up for it. I'd be curious to see what those areas look like stripped to bare metal.
28\29 does not have the 90 degree return at the front edge either. They are flat that fix to the flat edge of the fire wall. Being non original anything could have been cobbled up.
Never saw an original A of any year with those. Dad taught me to identify years so I could scurry through underbrush to check out ones he couldn't get to
