    Anybody done it? Pics?

I was thinking of doing this in the future. Maybe with a truck body.

I have never done it, but I would have to ask myself why before I did. Too weak of a frame unless it is TT truck frame, then you have a nice strong frame.

Yeah, I was just looking at a pile of T frames at my friends. They couldn't even handle the little Datsun motor that's in my car. Also, the A frame has the reg numbers on them.

This kind of question comes up from time to time...it seems nobody likes the T frames for anything, because they flex a lot/too skinny/etc...

I've seen T frames modified in so many different ways, and people have ran them with little or no problem, and although I wouldn't dare put an A body on a T frame (it just seems backwards somehow...), there shouldn't be any reason why a person couldn't modify a T frame to work.

We came up with a simple solution to the "Boxing" question at a shop where I worked years ago...it requires two sets of T rails, basically you take the left side rail, fit it inside the right side rail, then weld them together on the top and bottom. do the same with the other set of rails, then make X-members that would have taken the flex out of the original frame to begin with (strength of the original frame is the main issue this method corrects, but the X-members take care of the flex issue)

...in the end, after you step the front and rear to your satisfaction, make the necessary brackets/tabs/crossmembers/etc, the work you did on the T frame would probably wind up taking more time and money than just finding the right frame somewhere else.

I'd suggest making a tube frame, and selling the T frame to me :D j/k

    UMMMMM,

You guys do relize that a "T" frame was made of a spring steel..

They made these frames to FLEX... When ya weld on them it fatigues & crytalizes the surronding metel which in time will craze up a seiries of hairline cracks.

Now before you start your '' I HAVE SEEN A THOUSAND OLD CARS DONE"...... We all have seen it.

But way back when all the welding was done with gas welding, a lil different than todays MIG welding...

many of the real old rods on "T" frames really never had the frames welded on, most of the mods were done with bolts or rivits , Once seen an old T speedster & the rear was "z'ed" up.. all bolted together

Then again, It dont matter to me what ya do.. yer gonna do it anyway.... i'm just sayin
