UPDATE:This thread is about a Model A build for a Friend! I am pumped about this one because I love Model A's and this will be my first frame off build on a Car this old! I plan on posting many pics of this one so I figured it needed its own thread! Please feel free to add input or ideas on anything I post here! Thanks Neal Here she is in all her glory! She was bought brand new and was a daily driver until 1972 when the owner failed his driver test and decided to park it in a barn! 38 years later here she sits...in my shop! more pics... The old girl still runs and the brakes still work! Wow! The tires aired up fine but the rear died on the trip over. When we were unloading it a mouse jumped out of the trunk and the owner said "That one you can have for free"! More pics to come...I'm gonna rip into this one first thing Monday morning! Here's my newly created work order/ build sheet.
Its unbelievable how strait the body is! (with the exception of the top...someone was very proud of the galvanized filler panel on top!) The fenders were the worst part of the project! I think I'm gonna look for new front and rear fenders...anyone know a good supplier for fenders? Oh and new tires?
Thanks for the info! Ive got Monday scheduled to start the tear down and Tuesday scheduled to order parts! God I love this shit!
thats why i said "something sorta like this" implying SORT OF LIKE THIS ONE BUT NOT THE SAME CAR! lol i guess you have to speak slowly and clearly to a bunch of gear heads these days
Just a little update...got 8 hrs of tear down done today. My Cousin stopped by this afternoon and decided he wanted a little quality time on the A, so he scraped the roofing tar and took all the screws out of the filler panel on the roof! Thanks Man! Lord what a mess! It looked like they took a hammer to drive the screws thru the roof! A dimple in all the screw areas! OUCH! The original canvas top was still there! Very Bad shape! But the tack strip and groove is still in good shape. Heres a few progress pics! So far the only rust Ive found is in the trunk and at the rear wheel well! Amazing!
Update! More pics of the restoration! I love this stuff! Junk I found in the trunk! Yes its a corncob soldering iron! The engine Frame Body work Interior wood is good...the roof wood will have to be replaced More to follow!
more frame pics The front crossmember has seen better days...as you can see some one welded the U bolt cradle to the crossmember and welded the spring to the frame as well! I debated about changing the crossmember but it was over all in good shape...so I cut the bad section out and replaced it with the same thickness as original. cleaned up ...and painted The front axle was hit in the passenger side and bent pretty bad. I took it down to the alignment shop and had them bend it back. more frame... the battery tray... ...more to follow!
the seat was in bad shape...I glued it back up and bent it back in shape... Big plans on monday...trunk floor will be replaced with wood (rusted bad) ...and of course more bodywork. The wheel wells need replacing. I'm gonna paint the interior floor then flip it over and undercoat the bottom...then install the body back on the frame! And then...wait for it.................................TEST DRIVE IT! WOO HOO!!!!!!!! ...more to follow!
The grill will be saved. (the owner wants it restored) Has a few dents to be pounded out. The worst is the crack at the bottom...I straightened it and will welded it up. This shows how bad the top is! If it was mine it would get one hell of a chop! ...more...to...follow!!
This is all very nice but is there a hotrod in this picture anywhere? I don't get it. What are your plans for modification? Is this a restoration? I think your lost. I am not alone. I'm sure of that. In fact. I'm positive of it.
