Reinegger's Frame & Wheel, San Jose Frame & Wheel, Concord Safety Center, and 4 or 5 others...worked 'em all. Not a 'shim-shuffler', I bent axles, straightened them, and wishbones, springs, spindles, name it. Bent it all COLD.
Yes, that guy in the pic is bending in the wrong place with the wrong tool. That 'integrated tension' tool came about later, and it can only be used for 'negative' pull, positive requires a different setup. (1 degree where he's bending might end up with a visible 'bend' where the tool is hung...)
Right tooling would be the 5 ton 'hook' or 'stirrup' at the end, area between spring hanger and king pin. Bottle jack outboard...
What was the 'elongated hanger hole' question about?? Hanger?

Only elongated holes I recall was when Marty Costello would pull 'em down at MOR-Drop in Oakland. Heat the end of the axle, insert tool in the king pin hole, and pull. After the drop, call the customer and tell him he has elongated king pin bores.
Few dollars more, 'shrink and re-hone'...

I buy bent axles when I find 'em...("Can't straighten it, it's junk." ...So they tell me...):D

No he is in the right spot depending on how much change he is after. If you push closer to the wheel you have a better chance of stretching the holes.

Enbloc just curious why you would run so much negative camber on a straight axle? No way I'd run more than a 1/4° negative. Even that much negative would be a special circumstance.

  3. I do a lot of motorsport with the car and have always suffered from understeer. I've made great improvements over the years with wheels, tyres, tyre pressures, toe-in, shocks etc. The one adjustment that's been left to the last is the camber because its such a pain to adjust.
    Its all trial and error.
