i don't see why not.ther's a guy down the street from who bought a 5 window that had a banger fitted with an ANSEN intake with a single holley 94 on top,it also has a mallory distributor.he bought it just for the body, but he won't sell me the frame and running gear because i won't give him what he thinks ($1500) it's worth.for that price he can keep it! you might wanna check out www.secretsofspeed.com they have some cool side covers and other neat stuff for good prices-george

You can run the 97, might be to much fuel. A Stromberg 81 or Holley 92 would be better.

Dual 97's on a Model A will be too much air and gas.

You could probably put that Ansen intake with carb, and mallory and sell it as a speed package for $600 - $800 on eBay these days. Shoot. If the Model A engine is running and has those items on it, you could probably get at least $2000 for the motor alone.

I think you are passing up a reasonable deal at $1500, especially if it's running.

  5. the intake is a single zepher intake I have both 94s and 97s but no 81s or 92s

Fordy 6 is right. A 97 is a bit much for a dead stock A motor . With a higher compression head and a mild cam it would be just right. You might just be able to properly use it with a head, Mallory dizzy and headers and leaving the internals alone. 2 97s would likely need a high comp. head, dizzy, headers and a stout cam with inserts and full oil pressure highly recommended. Headers would be necessary in any case 'cuz most downdraft intakes won't allow the use of a stock exhaust manifold.

Something that has been done, not necessarily the hottest setup but certainly cheap: Mill or grind or file, depending on your technology/finance/time balance, a flat atop the stock manifold. Make it parallel to ground, not block.
B manifold already has a nice flat that just needs cleaning. Make holes, put on 1950's adapter made to install Ford three bolt carbs to one barrel 6 cylinders.
    Cheap banger tech.
Oh, don't forget to block off the old inlet down there...

A stromberg 48 actually has a higher CFM than a 97. You're better off with the 97 if you are set on not running an 81.

I will let you know that I do know a guy running a 97 on a single down draft intake similar to that, and he drives his Model A alot. It CAN be done, but may be overkill.

Read this to learn more about strombergs....

The single Zepher seems to be fairly rare piece, I have duel. The Stromberg 48 pumps more air / fuel than the 97. 48 = 175 cfm with a 1.031 venturi. 97 = 150 cfm with a 0.969 venturi. 81 = 135 cfm with a 0.812 venturi. Issue V13 #3 Secrets of Speed has this info. If you can't find a copy or get it on the web site, PM me I'll copy the article.

Elrod,i have to assume you're on dope [IMG] or something.first of all, this was NOT a running driving car, this was in-a-barn,frozen-engine,and mismatched wheels.second, ebay might be populated with idiots, but i'm not one of them.realistically i think a single 2bbl. intake with a 94 on top would probably go for $200-250 tops and a mallory dizzy shouldn't go for more than $100.i'd be doing this guy a favor if i hauled it off for $500,but that's just my opinion-george [IMG]
