I chopped my daily driver four inches over a two week period, lots of little pie cuts and very little filler, came out better than I hoped. I also sectioned the rear fenders five inches. flat black and real taillights soon to come. I used a mazda mpv middle seat no mods, just remove the slide track its a bolt in and set it on the floor. It has a adjustable back, most dont.

Most all years work in the 90's, some are cloth, some are slip n slide, I found mine with no headrests, some have those too. The seat belts are attached to it also. I will update with pics.

It looks damn good especially with it being full fenderd.

  10. Looks great both ways. Love the orange. I would just touch up the orange, lose the rear tailites for some round Pontiac ones on the flat panel below the trunk and consider it done. Flat black is so yesterday. Can't see throwing away a paint job. Pat.

I agree with Pat, Touch up the Orange. Both my Car and Truck are in Primer, not cause that is the finished color, but because I havent done the body work yet. That Orange is a good color and from the picts, looks to be a quality paint job.

Just my opnion, but why else would you have posted this if not to ask for our opnions. BTW, Awesome job on the Chop! Well Done! You should be proud.

The orange has solvent pop all over it not noticable till right on it, and most people never notice it. The car is an old rod, I thought I was sanding through filler and realized it was orange, candy apple red, gold base, black, baby blue, and dark blue, with primers and sealers under some. I still might leave it orange, out of lazyness. Now that its chopped I sit in it better, and dont feel like I am riding in a fish bowl. Some one posted I am cooler now. Please tell my wife...

I loved that car before when you had it for sale, and I especially like it now!! Great car, love the chop and bobbed fenders! Way to go, man!

It might seem too 'old timey', but I think stock Model A tail lights would look cool on that car!

I have access to any color I want for free, I work for a body shop that does trucks. I clean out the paint cabinet overy six months reds, greens, blues, purples, silvers, most have heavy metalics, If you are truck drivers dont take offence but they paint em up with the brightest funkey gay colors. Well not all of them do. I got about five gallons and twenty quarts at home right now, that I give and sell to friends, so I might get motivated and paint it this summer. Until then I think I will keep it orange, I dont want to add another color and make the car heavier.

One more redundant comment asking you to not paint it flat black here!

That car has a really cool look to it...I think just because it's so low.

Ok no flat black. You all talked me into it. I got a quart of compe***ion orange which is very close to it that will work for a quick touch up on the roof and fenders. Ok now how about a clean scallop on the sides? Tan? silver?

I was searching for photos of bobbed rear Model A fenders since I'm planning that for my full-fendered '31. This is quite an old post but the photos in the original post of this thread has a number of photos of what is described as a 5" rear fender sectioning. The car in the original post is a great looking car. Looking at my car I had been considering sectioning out 3", but might try to take out a little more since the finished job the OP did looks good.

Would anyone else have any photos of Model A rear fenders sectioned in a similar way, and possibly photos taken during the process? Seems like a pair of fenders could really be messed up if it's not done properly. I was thinking the cut out section would have to be taken from the "inside corner radius", above where the fender transitions to the flared back "mud flap", which I'd like to retain but just move it up a few inches. Based on my quick look without making a pattern of the fender's radius, it looks like the section to be removed would have to come from the lower edge of the body and above that area to retain the smooth transition of the radius.

    Input appreciated!

    Lynn

*EDIT* Just looking back at the photos again it appears the section removed was from below the bottom of the body where the rearward bend occurs. That appears to somewhat flatten the rearward flare. I like that! If a section was removed from above the bottom of the body wouldn't the rearward flare become even more pronounced? Needless to say, I prefer mechanical and fabrication work w-a-y more that sheet metal related stuff!

I would have liked to have seen the fenders even with the bottom of the rear panel.

    I like it other wise.

Man that was a long time and many cars ago, I drove it rain or shine only heat was leaked through the firewall and after leaving work at Peterbilt on Swan Island I would have to drive home in boxer shorts when caught off guard by the summer heat. It got a good laugh from people looking in.

Kustchops.....I'm happy you checked in. I did quite a bit of searching on bobbed Model A fenders and your post was the best I found. It gave me the "ah-ha" moment that made me realize where I needed to section my fenders to get the look I am after. Thanks!

The A looks great. Nice job on the chop and the fenders. Lake _harley I bobbed mine also. I seem to recall going 5 3/4" up from the bottom lip. Only needed a couple small relief cuts to fit the 2 sections together. The lower blue tape on the left fender is where I cut it. The square taped area is an area I had to repair and I used tape to mark it out. After doing it stock fenders look odd to me now!

Great looking coupe. I'm with the rest of the guys on the flat black, but it's your car. Do what makes you happy.
