Id love to install one without drilling, a nice period correct clock in my 1930. I see sterling was the brand back then but i do not want to modify dash and im running 12 volts. Anyone come up with a nice period correct looking solution that isnt permeant? Thanks! -John

For a long time the norm for car clocks was a clockwork clock which merely periodically gets wound up electrically. It could be that such a mechanism could be adapted to a non-automotive clock?

Also, of course, hobby clockmaking is a thing. Try a search? (Rabbit-hole warning, though.)

Id buy one of those new big face watches and put it in a spot with custom surround.

Get a wrist watch with a leather band. Wrap it around your rear view mirror ....

Sun dial is more traditional. It won't work in the PNW most days though.

  13. You can buy a battery powered clock mechanism real cheap and install a "AA" battery outside the housing underneath the dash. These mechanisms can be used to replace the original dead unit, and come with different shaped hands which can be cut down, painted, etc to suit. You can install these in any clock with a face bigger than about 2". I once found a real neat wristwatch and removed the band, ground off the band mounting tabs so it was just a round housing, and mounted it with a piece of sticky velcro so the battery can be changed.

I dig the clock in the mirror option but I’ve put a wrist watch around the spoke of a steering wheel more than once as well

This clock/mirror came with my roadster. It's in the '34 now for safe keeping. Only problem with it is that the spring only runs the clock for about a day. It will most likely go back in the roadster once it's done. IMG_3033.jpeg

That's why you have a clockwork mechanism to keep it oriented the right way :D
