Projects Model A confiscated by the POPO

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by PoPo, Mar 7, 2009.

  1. I thought the POPO was the cops at first, too! Cool project there! I hear it saying "392 Chrysler HEMI!"...I hear it again!

  2. Yeah we'll meet up sometime at a show this year. I'd just build a hot rod out of it myself. As far as the rear subrails, if you are going to channel it you will need to build something anyway otherwise you can buy reproductions.

Ive been thinking of using a 32 frame on an A for a long time. I do want to channel it a little bit maybe 2-3 inches or so. If the price is too high then I'll just build a frame, 2x3, or box the A frame and Z it. Not sure yet, long way from that.

Patrick I did that for a reason, thought it would be funny and be better than, "look what I bought this weekend" post. and I sure wish I could get a Hemi, but probably not ($$$$$$$ reasons)

I already made a deal for my spare turbo 350, trading it for a T5 with SBC adapter and a early ford shifter.

Here is just a few from today with it still drying in the garage.

My plan for the SBC is get rid of the edlebrock and chrome an throw on a 3x2 intake or so with finned covers.

Also how were the tops held together on the last pic? wire? I want to weld it all together to make it smooth, is that wrong?

Nails and wood, I believe. I don't think wire. The one I looked at still had tacks in it.

Not to get too far off topic, but check the belt position on your little one's seat. I think they should be in the top slots for forward facing. I used to work for Evenflo and they need to be higher than her shoulders for forward facing mount, lower for rear. This keeps them from getting bent funny in a crash. It might be OK on your seat, we were putting braces and such in them when I got out almost 10 years ago.

Yeah, I could have PMed you but someone else may see this and their kid is worth a thousand A's. You've got some keepers there! The truck, the bride, the HEATED garage, dang man, living the life!!

Thanks Danimal. She hasnt rode in my truck in about 6 months we use the wife's Lancer for all our family driving, I guess I should change it before she does start riding with me again. Good looking out man. I really appreciate it, you can only imagine the things I see with people and their kids in the rear seat, and I write every single one of them the ticket for it. Parents are responsible for the kids, we can't blame the kids.

and I agree about having some keepers. The bad thing is I am trying to get everything together to sell this house and move on to bigger and better, possibly in 2010 or so.

    Ok got some ?s

    32 style frame, or a Z'd frame.

give me some pros/cons. I need to look into a frame before I start building the new floor for the rear.

Two different styles. The classic highboy hot rod, or the more East coast low style. Which do you prefer? I'm a '32 frame type of guy.

You would probably end up with a squarer body if you restore it to stock A specs first, no matter if you cut out the rear floor for a '32 frame or a Z. Getting the subrails tight and square is key to a decklid that fits.

    PMed you on different matters.

I love the highboy look, but everytime I look at Evel's I get a sick feeling in my gut.

What would be the $$ difference between the two setups? I would really like to say I bought the rails if I do the 32 frame and then completed the rest but it would be so easy to buy a nice frame from say Ionia or another company and know its done and correct.

I'd love to hear some peoples thoughts.

Hey popo,i am doing a 30 on 32 rails,i am doing about a 5/8 channel and the rear mods are time consuming,a 30 sitting on top of the rails with the cowl cut out would be alot easer,if you going to channel then go a frame, the point for me using 32 rails is the look of the rails

If you do a '32 frame go highboy, if you want the channeled look go with an A frame. Just my opinion

One thing that may help you make your decision is what you need to do to the subrails. From the pictues it looks like they need replaced. If you have to you might want to channel it since you have to cut them out anyway. I have a 29 RPU and 34 PU cabs and I'm going to build both channeled because neither had subrails.

and the truck, well I wish I could keep it up doesnt look like its going to happen. Need to pay off some stuff and well I need more room to take the family around when we cruise. Thats why I have a 50 4 door now. but thats on the back burner to the A also.
