Change the ***le. I almost skipped it, thinking, "Huh, is that thread still alive? I thought he bought that car." Maybe give it a new ***le that reflects the orignal but also indicates where you're going now, such as "Building the Fair-Priced Model A."

You could also add a note to the first post as an explanation for newcomers, indicating at what post the price discussion ends and build begins." Othewise you'll keep getting price estimates from people that don't read through.

Looking forward to your progress. With Model As, if they turn, they'll generally fire.

Ok guys. I took your advice & changed the ***le of the thread. I'm going to do my best to do***ent as much of this build as I can. I hope nobody expects this thread to go fast as I have a wife, 3 kids, practices/games/recitals, yard work, & a career that all goes before this. Plus I think the beginning stages of this are going to be more getting the car running & on the road as well as obtaining/collecting all the parts I'm going to need to make the transformation. I want to get it running because I would imagine if I take a video of the running motor & the car driving down the road the value of the motor when I pull it and sell it will be more. I want to give it a mild chop (I'm 6'2"), rebuild & use an 8ba flathead motor (which I already have), keep it on the A frame, I really like the old Kelsey Hayes wheels. I'm going to use Vern Tardels & H&H flatheads books to help me along the way. Any help on leads to obtaining parts would be greatly appreciated. Let me know what you guys think.
    Thanks for everything
    Josh

Josh....I hear you about slow progress...I can't seem to get anything done. I wouldn't sell that motor if it has the serial number on it that was used for your ***le. I've heard of two cars having the same vin number...a friend had a '57 Chevy impounded because of that. Also have heard of 1st gen Camaros that have had their vin tags removed when they were parted out shells and used on another car...I guess to get away with not paying back DMV fees...or worse, to put on a stolen car. Then the guy who has the body which is the real place that vin should reside...with the hidden vin to match...tries to register his car only to find its already registered elsewhere. If the frame and motor didn't match in your A...and your motor number wasn't used for the ***le...disregard the above and sell it if you want. Just trying to look out for you down the road at possible problems..

Damn!!! Thanks for throwing that out there Black Panther. Yes the vin on the ***le is from the motor. So I guess I better hold on to that bad boy. I honestly don't plan on selling any parts until I'm completely done. But as for the motor. I guess I better hang on to that. What if I grind the number off the motor before I sell it? Is that a big no no or would that be a reasonable way to remedy my problem.

Josh...youre lucky you have the matching motor to your ***le. That way you can prove the car is legit if you had to. I'd keep it..

Congrats! looks like a nice car for a fair price.

Get it running and driving before you do anything else. You may enjoy it stock and put off modifications till something breaks or wears out.

I have a stock 30 coupe and a hotrod 30 coupe that I saved and actually kinda prefer the stocker most of the time.

I have an 8ba in mine as well but am on 32 rails. The motor does fit under the stock hood but it took some work to make it fit.

I like this thread. Sounds like you made a great deal. I know model a's VINs are stamped on the frame under the body. when you pull the body check to see if that # matches your ***le. I am not sure but I don't think motor numbers matched the frame. Maybe originally they did but I am not sure. Someone with a little more knowledge on this might shed some light on it. A couple of years ago some agent called my mom asking about the Roadster my dad had. Apparently someone in Kansas was trying to register a model A with the same VIN. The guy came out and looked at the car and went on his way. I never heard anything more about it. Great project by the way. I am following along.

    @GreaserJosh13

I bought a '31 Tudor years ago with ***le, but the owner at the time had not signed the ***le over to his name. I did a search for the name on the ***le and found the guy. He was 92 and lived about 1.5 hours from me, so I arranged to have him sign the ***le over to me, and as luck would have it, his daughter was a notary at the contractor-ran license plate office!

I get there and get the ***le work done...then he says he still has the ORIGINAL motor. He asks if I'm interested...the obvious answer was yes! Checked the engine number against the ***le...BINGO!

The original block is, and always will be, under the workbench...at least until I sell it!

    BTW...really nice coupe!!

@Binger Yes, Ford stamped the motor number on the frame as they sat the engine in place. IF they DON'T match, the motor has been replaced!

I thought so. Pretty rare to find one with the original engine.

As cheap as you can get it, maybe he is hard up for money, maybe not. Maybe nobody has offered or even looked at it. I say as cheap as you can get it because no matter what your gonna have to do some maintenance or buy something for it. An old man in the 70's once told me "there's always something wrong with an automobile"
