Got the rest of the b pillar supports and the windshield header done. Waiting for the rain to stop so I can get some paint on them. Also got the cowl installed just to help line everything up

I'm looking for advice about what use as bushings between the body and frame? I plan on channeling the body over the model A frame rails. Can't seem to find anything other than the original wood blocks. Any ideas?

I use the oil implregnated frame welting. Comes in a roll with enough to do a full frame with a little xtra.

I Like your work so far.

I like channeled unhopped rods, but has no objections too your plans yet.
Just curious, channeling the width of the frame, and chopping 4 inches, does that mean you are 4 feet 8 inches without boots?

Just to show you what I mean

    But; get to it, lad.

I'm 5'7", seen some pretty cool 4" channel and 4" chopped Model A's. Nothing is set in stone, figure I'd build it channel it and drive it first to get an idea of how much I should chop it.

I agree with Volvobrink, ... I wish I could un-chop my Coupe, and mine is only channeled 2-1/2". I drive mine nearly everyday and it's a pain to sit in comfortably and try and see a stop light ... ha ha.
Short of sitting on the floor, that would be the only way to see better.

Ok thanks for the advice. The chop is the last thing I'll probably do just so I can gauge what would be the best amount to take out. I plan on driving the hell out of it.

If your young and have NO back or neck injuries then you will most likely want to chop and channel as most do.
I did then ( I was 31 years old) and now at 60 years old and back and neck injuries to deal with 24 hours a day, I'm faced with having to create a way to make my Coupe comfortable enough to still enjoy it or sell it.
Not trying to rain-on-you-ideas, just sharing.
I've been in love with A Coupes for 50 years and I don't want to give up. We never know what the future holds.

That is a lot of chop/channel, and you run out of room fast!
And a heavy chop and channel makes the car look so cool, but if you don't fit, It would be uncool!

But doing one thing at the time, makes it possible to change plans mid creek.

Try looking up Snoopy on here, it's an very cool survivor rod, so you can see what a well channeled unchopped car looks like, and hear how it fits.
The time spend researching before cutting is well spend!

In the 1960-s traffic lights were moved from poles on the corners to the middle of intersection suspended on cable. Municipalities only need one that way instead of 4. Raised the light up much higher. I can't see the traffic light with a stock roof 55 Chevy. Some use a prism reflector mounted on the dashboard to be able to see the light change. Even with unchopped coupes you can't see the light most of the time

image.png Skip the channel, and hold off on the chop until you have a seat in it to figure out your forward vision. This one w/o chop and channel looks slick to me. Your floor and subrails look too good to hack out of there!

Slowly but surely getting the body squared up. Windshield header done. Going to hang the doors and make sure everything is square then going to tack B pillars.

Really like the windshield steel header. What did you fabricate from? I am just about there with my coupe and I want to replace the wood.

1 1/2" square tube closest to the inside then stepped down to 1" where the windshield mounts. The header has 1" square tube welded to it that goes over the doors then that's welded to the B pillar support. It took a lot of measuring to get the body all squared. Oh and it's all 1/8" thick.

Thank you. I already used your design to replace the wood in the B pillars. Came out beautiful.

What is the overall width of the header? A photo of the steel over the doors would be a help.

The supports over the doors are not welded up yet. I need to finish the patch panels on the doors and make sure they hang square then I'll tack the B pillar supports.

Everything is loosely bolted together with center lines marked. Also where the windshield mounts I made the holes slightly bigger so I have some adjustment. In the middle of rebuilding the windshield frame as well. I figured I'd use it to mock up the body and make sure it's square before I weld everything.

Looks like you added vertical tubing onto the header to drop into the A pillars.

No I think your seeing the windshield garnish molding, I threw them on to make sure the windshield frame fit. Nothing done to the A pillars, there pretty solid.

Finally got the windshield header welded up, windshield frame hung and the body centered. On to fitting the visor on so I can start welding it to the body. Slow going when it's about 35 degrees in the shop.
