Hahaha... not this one he's not! :D

I stopped down to the shop today before Chris went to Viva. I'm surprised at the condition of the metal. There's a few pin holes on the base of the drivers door, maybe 6-8 on the windshield frame, a bullet hole under the rear window and that's pretty much it for holes.

There are a few wavy areas that need some metal work and the car is WAY out of square. The rear panel below the deck lid will be changed. It's a fairly inexpensive piece to buy.

The lighter areas on the body is metal filler. It chips away fairly easy by hand so it should be short work to sand it off.

So, that's where we're at. Next week it gets squared up and braced... maybe a haircut, a dash, some metal work... who knows? I'm super excited though. There's PLENTY to do before the frame arrives.:):):)

I worked this morning on getting the body all square and the doors lined up. Once the doors lined up and it measured right I added cross bracing in both the door openings as well as through the dash area and door posts.

Now with it all braced up its ready to start the chop.

Subscribed!! I love what SFSS does to almost everything that comes from that shop.

Already got some ideas for my A Coupe, with squaring it up and so forth. I have one in need of much more attention that your bod needed. Keep the updates coming please!!!

I snuck down to SFSS to sit in the coupe so we could figure the chop amount. We put the seat in it and got a rough idea of how things will go. We're going to chop it four inches. Because the seat that I'm using is fairly thin, even at 6'3" I'll be able to sit comfortably with room to spare above my head.

However... the rear window will only get three inches taken out of it, then lowered an inch. I want the rear window to be similar in proportion to the others and there'll be a little more visibility when I'm old and gray. :D

    That's it for now, fellas.

This morning I started getting things prepared for laying out the chop. I will be chopping this as close as possible to the way Jimmy Shine chopped his model a in the July 2008 issue of rod and custom. The only difference is that we will be taking out 1" under the rear window instead of the full 4".

First I figured out the areas that I want to take the sections out. Then I sprayed the layout die over those areas. Next I will layout the chop and scribe my lines.

Tonight I got the 4" chop cut out and its now sitting at the new height. Looks just right, especially with just 3" out of the rear window instead of 4".

I want to see that back window... how does the proportion look?

I agree, the window works. I like it closer to the belt line, too.

Here are some more shots of how the chop laid out. Especially around the back window.

You aren't the only one, for sure! I actually talked to Matt at Ionia Hot Rod Shop the other day about the frame and such and it'll be in the jig next week. So, hopefully it'll be under the body sometime early May.

There'll be a bunch of pics of the frame build-up posted here as well.

Not too much to update... other than some packages coming in from Mac's, Brookville Roadster, and a HAMBer or two.

The only thing I'm a little hesitant about is the lower panel beneath the deck-lid (from Mac's). I hadn't heard good or bad about fitment or quality so I'll know when I get to compare the two and, of course, when it gets installed we'll know the scoop.

I've got to say, as well, that I purchased my 32 inner fenders through Brookville's online format and I didn't get my discount. I guess, from what Lisa @ B.R. said, that I'm the only HAMBer to ever have ordered that way. However, after a few back and forth Emails, they took care of it and are sending me a refund for the difference. Got to love that there are still companies that operate with integrity! Nice job, Brookville!

Also, in a link in my sig there's a blog dedicated to the build-up. However, I'm going to include a bunch of other stuff that doesn't usually get covered in a build thread. This came as a request from some non-HAMB hot rod friends and some family.

My little brother asked me a bunch of questions that all pretty much make for good blog topics. My goal is short, sweet, and with pics. I'll update it often in hopes that the care will be finished sooner. :D

The frame is in the jig! :D

Matt, from Ionia Hot Rod Shop where the frame is being built, sent me an email with a couple pics.

    Here's his message,

"Here are two pictures for your enjoyment, that is my father, Dennis, welding the spacer blocks in the rails, these locate the boxing plate "set-in"."

That's it for now... he's going to send more pics as he progresses. If you don't know anything about these guys, definitely look them up.

I used Mac's patch panels in my coupe including the rear one as well as the corners and was extremely happy with the fit. They are a local co. to me (Lockport NY) and their catalogs are outstanding.
