I'm sorry guys I left out some vital info, my floor has a step up to clear the 4 link setup. The floor is not flat. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Hope these pics help, square tube is ½ inch, one thing to remember is by removing the original floor on its own your already gaining room because your getting rid of thickness. I think the wood alone is ¾". If you haven't already, try resting the body flush to the bottom of the frame by clamping material across the bottom of the frame, sit in it and get an idea. My floor is already complete. The step up over the four link bars make the seat location about 4" above the rest of the floor Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
My Model A is chopped 5", that's just a little too much, I'd stick with 3-4" max, nice look'in hot rod. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...t-rod-restoration.847790/page-2#post-10479839
Your coupe is channeled as is mine. You can't chop them too much when they sit this low. I have a 3 3/4" chop. Any more would be too much, any less and it wouldn't have an 'aggressive' look.
That's one hell of a ride man. Very similar to where mines headed. You did good. Got anymore pics? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
What's your radiator/ grille set up? My grille is chopped and the radiator is a 32. I want to lower the grill down about an inch to get it closer to where yours is Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Thank you. Yes, I have photos from the entire build. Just let me know what you want. It's a '32 Ford steel grill shell. The grill and insert are sectioned 5". It took some time, but it came out nice. The grill is proportioned nicely with the rest of the car. It sits below the level of the cowl, which is important. You have a very nice Model A!
Oh yeah... the radiator is a Ron Davis aluminum radiator for a LOW BOY. It's kinda small but it cools the small block very efficiently. It has a mechanical fan off the waterpump....old skool! Its tight up front with all the steering components, fan, grill, cross member, etc. Lots of measuring, but the compact, short wheelbase look is sooo cool IMHO. Your Model A looks great! I like how it sits, it just screams Hot Rod! Maybe just chop it...somewhere around 3"-4" as suggested by other HAMBers and that's it. Even if you didn't chop it, it's still perfect! I wouldn't mess with your floor...as you know, they're a lotta work to get right.
I appreciate it man. A buddy of mine gets all the credit for the build, I'm just trying to make a couple changes and get her finished. I may have to get a different radiator bc my shell sits right on top of the bracket at the top of the radiator. The devil is certainly in the details and I'm OCD. The chop will end up being 3", and gloss black paint. All black interior with some aluminum accents here and there. The seats will be a real deal black elephant skin. Honestly I'd love to look at any and all the photos you feel like posting. Engine and radiator detail, interior. Don't hold back! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
4'' chop on my sedan and zero channel.. I sit on 80's nova seats leaned back and its pretty comfortable.. Plenty of head room too I'm also in the 5'-8'' 5'-10'' range Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I'm channeled 4" and chopped 6" but it's 28/29. On a 30/31 it's more like a 4" chop. Note about the ladder bars, in order to keep the floor flat and low, I Z'd them. You can see in the second pic below...
Remember the tudor has an inch taller opening in the door / side glass area than thr coupes, just pointing that out for reference. Sorry I can't post pics but I have done two coupes, 3" and 4" and a Tudor at 4". A fenderless car has to be at least 4" I think. I really wanted 5" on the last coupe but with the fenders staying on I chickened out and went 3". I knew it would sell easier eith a little lighter chop. None where channeled. I did however have a chopped and heavily channeled 34 ford pu. The floor was dropped and a 6' 215# while it*****ed getting in and out, I had all the leg and head room I could want. All 3 have build threads you can find in my profile. Awesome car you have.
The 4 1/2 inch chop on my coupe created a 7 1/4 inch clear view out the windshield.. Maine law state 7 inches is minimum! PHEW! that's cutting it pretty close, especially since I didn't discover this regulation until after the chop was done... Some states are tougher, some states don't care... just be sure to check.
How tall are you? Btw I've been obsessed with your car on Instagram Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Phew! Your car is BAD. It's nice to see a different approach get pulled off so well. I can't imagine how tough it was to pick a color in that area of the color samples haha Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Thank you sir, I've enjoyed every minute of having it. Still a long ways to go. Unfortunately it gets called a rat rod much too often. I chalk it up to most people not knowing any better, but it drives me insane. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Here is the step up in the floor for the four link bars. Excuse the mess and photo quality. The step is 4". Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
A 3 bar set up in the rear would eliminate the need for a step in the floor. The upper third bar fits in the driveshaft tunnel. The lower 2 bars go under the frame rails. Then your**** can go where the 4 link would otherwise go.
someone posted a thread on here last year about "A" chops, and took the time to set up a series of pictures starting with NO chop and progressing 1" at a time till it hit 8" I think. Great post, and good for the visuals. I'm a fan of the three inch boys regular myself.
