Bummer to think someone would scrap that...but great to know you saved it! It's been said that it's better in the long run to buy the most complete and rust-free car you can afford, rather than to start with something rougher and cheaper.*********...it's obvious that whoever said that doesn't hang around with you...lol.
Now if you could find a flatty in a rusty 32 frame for 75 bucks on the next load going by you'd really have something... Awesome save.
Your location is "in the garage" do I'm not sure where your st but if your in weekend excusrion distance from my house and are gonna sell pm me.
That's a great deal for sure. I'd bet the guy you got it from stole it, though. How else could that end up on it's way to the scrap yard?
Talk about right place and time! Great save, now sell me your 33 hahaha😁 Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
good deals are not on heard of, a few years back I picked up a 53' Ford convertible for $50! very rough and the car was pretty much cut up into pieces, but I ended up trading it for a very nice 40' Mercury 4 dr. Sold the Merc for $4000!
Right out of high school in 1959 I was working at a wrecking yard in L.A. I hauled stripped out bodies to the scrap yard. This yard had a pile of nothing but engines that I swear was 20 feet high like a giant pyramid. I'll let you speculate as to what was in that pile.......
Too good to be true. Might check local Cl see if anyone posted about it being stolen. If not... I am jealous! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Definite score. On a good note it's rare that anything good actually gets scrapped down here. If you drive in with a load and pick up something cool in the yard, They only pay on the weight difference. TP
No it's not stolen but if it was I would be fine to return it!! I followed him back to his shop! His father has owned the shop for 40+ years, doesn't look like they have worked on anything since 1982. He had an impala, couple of old trucks, a fire truck. He said that someone brought him the car years ago and never came back, he has been tripping over it for years and finally decided to clean out his shop. He doesn't know a 32 from a 68. By the grace of god I happened to be driving down san fernando and saw it loaded with a ton of car fenders and such. I almost DIDN'T turn around because I didn't think that someone would even think of scrapping it. Nice guy, I may even have him paint my 1940 willys. I recycle quite a bit and every time I go I find something of value, not a car but cool furniture, vintage tools, 1920's gates. Last time i found these two big ornate pillars from an early century Pasadena house, it was made with wood nails, no metal on it at all, a true beauty. I have to be honest I'm kinda thinking of building it. I have been on the hunt for a coupe for awhile. Now I need a decklid, door hinges on the cowl and the rear tailpan. The floor structure is perfect.
Last year I was at a scrap yard and a 57 chevy big cab truck was being dropped off. Wish I had more space and more moolah!!
NICE! I love scrap hounding! I always check the local scrap guys that are cleaning up old farms! sometimes you find GOLD!
Killer score. Back in the mid '90's I missed that same deal. 5 window sitting next to the big pile. No space/money/time. I kick myself to this day. Around the same time there were 3 W block Chevy motors in the engine pile. It's amazing what gets melted.
First of all you can NEVER have too many willys parts.Second of all nice save! Goes too scrap yard + brings back more junk cars = unhappy wife.
