Model A Coupe rain gutters, what to do?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SoCalSledder, Oct 15, 2007.

  1. What can I use for my 28-29 Coupe? Are Sedan gutters the same? Anyone using anything else for gutters? I'd like to keep it OEM.

    Anyone have any to spare?

Tudor sedan gutters probably could be used. They will need to be contoured slightly and shortened.

Sedan gutters are not that easy to find either.

The only other alternative which does work well but is not OEM is the two-piece track & gutter probably still sold by most Model A Ford parts sources. The gutter assembly must be bent to fit while still together, then snapped apart for paint (extruded aluminum), track mounting and snapping back together.
Try Snyder's or Mac's or your local Model A guy for this stuff.

Related question: How are Coupe rain gutters attached? Mine are pinholed all along the bottom and I'm considering just taking them off. If they are repairable, they will go back on. If not, they will set in the corner until I find a way to replace them.

Don't know if 28-9 are different.

For my 30, I measured the various bends in the original gutter and took the measurments to a metal bending company. They fabricated perfect replicas of the original, minus the curves front to back. Made up a jig to put a bit of a bend in the gutter at the back to match the factory curve down. Still have to drill the originals off and rosette weld the new ones on. The only thing missing is the small beaded area along the bottom of the gutter. Think the cost was around $14 each.

Can supply measurments if you want.

28-9 and 30-1 are totally different.

28's are two pieces with the actual drip rail snapping over an inner channel. Won't work good unless both pieces are GOOD condition. Many times the roof gets filled and the outer portion gets welded on. A good solution.

30's are welded on from the factory, and have a much simpler profile.

I don't think the 28's are hard to find. My brother, the Model A guy in the family, has so many sets in his stash that he wasn't buying the $5 driprails at the last swap we went to. Just keep your eyes open.

  8. With that said, can he spare a set? Can't find any aout this way. (not to say they're not to be found) But shit, I don't have a set.

Let me know if he's into selling a pair. Thanks
