model A crashes today/ driver dies:(

A local man was out for a ride today in his A coupe. Something happened and he lost control of the car and hit a house. The car cought fire and the driver died as a result.

What do you figure, saddle tanks or cowl? Either way, hell of a way to die.

 

Probably had the tank in the cowl. Sad.

The news says he lives in Enfield. That's the next town over from me. I can't place the name, so I don't know if it was someone I knew.

 

my prayers go out as well...I too don't reconize the name...but then again..there are a lot of car guys in that end of the state... that sucks

years ago good freind of mine used to rap the pipes on his rod when going by my house to let me know he was heading home ... any time of day or night ... was comforting to hear .. miss him now he died of cancer 11 years ago

Seems like someone on here would have at least seen that car around. I like to here more about the fire and how it started etc. and about the tank situation.

Sounds like the shop may have forgot to secure a fastener or put a cotter pin in. I've had it happen! Rear wheel of an old bug, 60mph on the Santa Monica freeway. SCARY!!!!!!!!!! R.I.P. -stick

Ron drove that Model A EVERYDAY. Spring, summer, fall and obviously, winter......
Yes, KTK, he died doing what he loved.....driving.
A hot rodder through and through. RIP.

Very sad. A small saftey tip regards Model A cowl tanks- I had a anti drain outlet pipe fitted to mine when I had it welded up. Basically its an inverted U pipe(inside the tank) so the outlet still comes out the bottom of the tank but the gas has to be sucked up through the pipe and down to the outlet point unlike the straight origonal tap/pipe off the bottom of the tank. Other things that could be fitted to a hotrod are an anti roll over valve-most modern cars have them, and a electric fuel pump shutoff that is triggered in an accident. All saftey things that can be hidden even in the most traditional hotrod

 

And a battery kill switch, my cousin Chester who races in NM was just telling me to make sure and do that a couple weeks ago..
