What do you figure, saddle tanks or cowl? Either way, hell of a way to die.

  9. The news says he lives in Enfield. That's the next town over from me. I can't place the name, so I don't know if it was someone I knew.

  13. is it possible it had a moon tank out front...
multi carbs or electric pump would contiue to spit fuel for a ten foot flame.?
    very sad indeed
sounds as though a freindly blip of throttlle got to be trouble.

years ago good freind of mine used to rap the pipes on his rod when going by my house to let me know he was heading home ... any time of day or night ... was comforting to hear .. miss him now he died of cancer 11 years ago

sad story ... out for a winter day cruz ends so tragic
who needs hotrods to hell like this!

Seems like someone on here would have at least seen that car around. I like to here more about the fire and how it started etc. and about the tank situation.

Dear Lord, please have mercy on this man for his heart was in the right place...his Model A...Amen.

Sounds like the shop may have forgot to secure a fastener or put a cotter pin in. I've had it happen! Rear wheel of an old bug, 60mph on the Santa Monica freeway. SCARY!!!!!!!!!! R.I.P. -stick

I wonder...any relation to racing legend "Wild Bill" Slater?

There is a speedway in Stafford, CT.

  26. Prayers to the family of a fellow rodder, for sure. Hate to hear this kinda stuff. I'll definitely always check cotter pins, castle nuts & safety wire on all the fasteners we install. R.I.P.

Perhaps his throttle stuck while in gear.

Very sad. A small saftey tip regards Model A cowl tanks- I had a anti drain outlet pipe fitted to mine when I had it welded up. Basically its an inverted U pipe(inside the tank) so the outlet still comes out the bottom of the tank but the gas has to be sucked up through the pipe and down to the outlet point unlike the straight origonal tap/pipe off the bottom of the tank. Other things that could be fitted to a hotrod are an anti roll over valve-most modern cars have them, and a electric fuel pump shutoff that is triggered in an accident. All saftey things that can be hidden even in the most traditional hotrod:D
