Left rear wheel, correct? I had 2 bugs, l/r came off of both of them one at 55 on the highway. The other on the day I bought it while I was towing it home. Something about those l/r wheels...

Maybe Kustom Klown will find out what went down and let us all know?

My condolence to friends and family.

 I know the guy was trying to help, but damn, for all we know this made it worse. Nobody had a fire extinguisher? Cripes almighty. Some guy crashes into my house and it ignites in ten foot flames, it's pretty obviously fuel related, you don't make it spread with water! :(

    RIP

I think that would be a lot of peoples response. That's why safety procedures need to be learned and rehearsed. When something like this happens, it's hard to not panic. If you know exactly what to do, exactly where your extinguisher is, and exactly how to use it, you can calmly put the fire out.

Let's use this tragedy to learn from the possible errors that contributed.

Go home and make sure you have two return springs in good working shape on your carb.

Make sure that you have a cut off switch for an electric fuel pump.

Check cotter pins and castle nuts.

Make sure your extinguisher is in your car. Trust me when I say that they don't do any good if they are sitting on your garage floor back at home.

And make sure that your extiguisher is current. I don't know what the regs are, but I know that the cheaper kind have expiration dates.

This is also probably a good time to run through a fire drill with your family and make sure your home fire detectors work properly.

Obviously I have know idea if any of these things might have helped this situation. I'm certainly not pointing a finger or placing any sort of blame. But if we can make our own lives a little safer because of it....

My guess is Gary Kiess is gonna be in a lot of trouble.

Unfortunately that's what happens all too often. Somebody tries to help and becomes the target of a lawsuit by some money-grubbing ambulance chaser. And even worse is if this guy who was trying to help had just stood there and watched, he would probably be hassled for not doing anything.

In any case, we've lost one of our own, my prayers and condolences to his family.

  12. Tonights paper says the fire was a result of a severed fuel line.

    RIP fellow hot rodder.

Notice that Gary says he waved to the driver who waved back. His distracting of the driver lead directly to the fatal accident. My guess is Gary Kiess is gonna be in a lot of trouble.

Not trying to take away from the good saftey points here, but I think none of this applies to the accident at hand. When it's all said and done, I think we are gonna find out that it was more of medical condition that caused the accident.:(
