Ok. It’s just really hard to picture in my head, since they are the same offset/width hubs as 40 Ford brakes and there have been a million of those done without tires rubbing. Can you snap a photo for me with it all ***embled?
It depends on which Lincoln backing plates you use, fronts or backs. Backs have more recess than fronts, if I remember correctly, but I may have that backwards.
The rear backing plates are the same across all the years of Lincolns; the depth of the fronts are what varied. Previous posts have seemed to indicate that he's using reproduction parts from Boling Bros, which use '40 Ford style hubs unless for some reason they do something differently on their Model A kits. People have been using '40 hubs (both front and rear) on hot rods for 75+ years w/o tire fitment issues, so who know what's actually going on here.
You got your posts mixed up. OP did not reference Boling Bros. I'm waiting on Boling Bros kit for my conversion.
He has in another thread. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/lincoln-brakes-on-a-model-a.1313542/
I don’t understand why you don’t just use the v8 diff with the ford juice brakes. They will stop that banger A. It stops my roadster, my aviator. I will find the article a hammer sent me to Id these diffs.
Grumpy, I guess my answer would be that I already bought over $1,000 in parts for the rear axle. I’m not super eager to give up on them. I can’t return them because I painted them before mock up (lesson learned). What I really need is someone who could supply me with shortened axles. I can narrow the housing myself.
Thanks for the Link Grumpy. This issue is all about width. A Model A axle width the Lincoln brakes is too wide for my truck, a V8 axle is even wider and I’m pretty sure that the ‘4E brakes add as much as the Lincoln brakes do.
