For those of you that have reskinned the bottom of a 30-31 model a door. I have a boughten patches for the beltline down, they appear to fit ok maybe a little wide. The plan is to butt weld them 1 inch below the beltline. my door had a patch installed poorly before.I have it cut off and left material safe on the door. My question is how do I get the lower body line lined up perfect? My thinking is to hammer/dolly the skin around the edges leaving an overlap of material at the top. then place the door on the car and should be able to move the skin a little to line it up? Then tack it and cut the top after I take it back off? Hope I am explaining this right.
I think you're on the right track. Some of Henry's original gaps and alignment were far from perfect. It depends on how nice of a fit you want and how nice of a patch panel you are starting with.

You may be able to tighten the seam up some when you hammer the edge around the lip. Looks like the bend is rounded you can change it some with a hammer and good dolly before you put it on by holding the dolly away from the edge and slowly hammering to the dolly.
