Been looking at the V8 water pump conversion for Model A banger motors, and am just curious if a fan is needed at all? Obviously no provision on the V8 pump for one, and an electric fan would look mighty ugly, so I'm just wondering if they run fine without a fan?
GARY? here on the HAMB drove this T roadster thousands of miles sans fan with no problems. I would think how much the engine has been hopped up and if it had a hood would make a differance, but yes you can.
Go to www.macsspeed.com and click on "dress up gear", model a and b water pump adapter. Graeme makes an adapter with late model otc aluminum pump that takes a fan. I have one but have not hooked it up. I bought just the adapter and the water pump from the bay. Very slick.
You could probably get away without a fan if you keep moving. When you put your car in a parade or get stuck in traffic you will definitely have a problem. What is wrong with using a leakless Model A pump? Charlie Stepjhens
Wow, and that looks like a pretty hot set-up too, good to know! Thanks for the link! Hadn't ever heard of that set-up before, looks pretty well engineered.. Is the $185 for everything, or just the adapter? Nothing wrong with a leakless pump, not even sure I'll switch to a different style pump, I'm just curious as to what guys are doing with V8 water pumps installed- since there's no easy way to put a fan on..
That's for everything including the block off for the head's water outlet. The pump is for some 6 cyl Ford. Pretty cool IMHO. Search for Graeme MacNeil and look for a yellow phonebooth truck he (used to) owned. Had a Riley and one of his w/p kits.
Wow, definately a hot little pickup! I'll be considering that set-up for sure- seems like a pretty reasonable conversion, and keeps a fan in there- wonder if any other HAMBers are running one?
