Has anyone used a '30-'31 Model A firewall on a '28-'29 cowl? I'm wondering how close of a fit it would be. I know you'd have to cut away the front portion of the old gas tank (on the '28-29), but most of that would be cut away anyway, with my build. Any photos would be great too.
30-31 firewall is larger...but I guess you could cut the hell out of it and shove it in there. Anything is possible
I MIGHT know of someone working on this? Guys are right tho, tons of difference in size and the radii of the upper corners.
Thanks guys. It sounds like it would be a lot easier for me to just make up a new lower portion (from flat stock), than trying this approach. My upper section is in great shape, but the lower is shot. I'll be running an in-line six I my '29, so I thought I might be able to use a '30-'31 firewall backwards, so that it would be concave (rather than convex) to buy a few more inches of engine bay length. I think I'll just make up a new lower portion and recess the upper and lower firewalls with a small wheel-barrel tub. Anyone have any other suggestions on how best to recess a '29 Model A firewall?
We had one made for the A from several pieces of sheet by a local sheetmetal shop. It bolts together. We needed more setback on the firewall for the 347.
