I have a stock model a that I want to put a flathead in. Will a 1946 flathead go in with a side shift tranny to the original rear and torque tube. I know I need front motor mounts and k member for the tranny. I don't want to cut the firewall. Looking for Help and ideas. Any appreciated. Brandon

Well, the '46 engine is a much better start for this than an 8BA. Go to single sheave (just cut away front of '46 pulley, leaving the area where ratchet nut tightens) and use a fan on generator type setup and you have the shortest flathead. Sideshift in an A was covered in Car Craft loooong ago...much fiddling required to get shift rods, cylinder head, pedals, etc. in there but quite a few people did it. Thr shift mechanism can be rotated on steering to get different paths, moved up and down the column, etc. until you find a way. Tardel makes a nice Model A width reproduction of a '32 K member. Original rear needs only a V8 U-joint cover to adapt to V8 trans.
