Question? I'm building a 28 roadster and found a guy with a frame and
no ***le. Can I check the Vin on line or do I take the number to the D.M.V.?
    Don't want to get stuck......

So if my 29 has a number that falls in the Feb 1930 range? The body is without a doubt a 28/29 body, but the VIN is A2922**x.

sure would be nice if I could find a chart like this for the 34 Dodge truck we have that is missing the tag in the door jamb and the paperwork was lost when the owner moved....

    Cheers

On the '29...MANY A's are registered under the number found on a random rebuilt engine put in decades ago.* If that is the case frame # should be the right one, though the later frame fits nicely under a '29 too. Frame # is of course frequently rusted to hell, and some are entirely absent on fresh clean frames.
Body # like that is something from body ***embly or ***embly line procedures, and has nothing to do with legal serial, though many creative folks have gotten through muddled DMV procedures by pointing to those!

    * Note the danger here...the car the engine came from could still be running around somewhere still registered under its correct number. These things have a pretty big survival rate...

He posted that July 11, 2012 so he probably has it taken care of now.

I hate to jump in on someone else's post but I am working on a Model A frame with no numbers due to weathering and a Model A cowl with no numbers that I can find. Is there anything I can do or should I find numbered parts. Thanks Bill.

Some Canadian frames came without numbers. First lets be sure you are looking in the correct place, see http://jmodela.coffeecup.com/numbers.html Sometimes the numbers can be raised using acid, see archives. There are no serial/VIN numbers on the cowl. There was a plate attached with four rivets that showed the patents used to build the car. If the body was built by someone other than Ford (subcontracted) there was a body number plate that was not used for identifying the completed vehicle (some DMV's have used this number but shouldn't have).
