I'm betting I can sell my frame to a golchainer and buy a complete original frame, or trade my frame for an original.. So my question is... Can a Model A body be bolted up to a later yr frame? I know everyone loves the 32 rails...but what about a 35? or a 40? What years are compatible with the "A" body? I don't care about bolting right up...just as long as it will work with a little metal massaging. If I can get an orignal rolling chassis...I'm betting it'll drive me to completing the "A" project, finally. Since the body is about 85% done, and I have a motor/trans/rear, along with a new wiring kit, taillights, headlights, pedals, and a steering column...I'm thinking all I need is a frame to swap rear-ends in, "Z" a bit in the back, maybe a little "Z" up front with a dropped suicide front axle. Anyways....any suggestions?
post 32 33 34 stuff gets bigger and has goofy curves for those bodies..seems like way more work to shorten...narrow...totally change....if it was me...model a frames are pretty afforable and can handle the work load as long as you build it to take the amount of abuse.or square tube your own...
Well...mines a square tubed custom job with IFS & IRS...Goldchainer shit, I don't care for it. Basically the frame is what put a stop to my progress... I have everything, but don't want to use the current frame. I've considered a frankenstein frame, but i'd like to find a COMPLETE ROLLING CHASSIS, with all useable parts, even if I have to build rails from tubing, as long as I can use all the factory shit with the new rails.
id just get an a and hella z it.i suppose you want it ultra low.i like the looks of a rails.but square tubing an suicide front and heavy zed rear.both very affordable...with split bones or hairpins.its easy enough.so ya gonna keep ya sedan now?i think if you got like a stock model a chassis it would not give you what you want with out mucho fab anyway. what rear ya gonna run?how ya thinking of setting up your rear.it might be the best to just build a tubing one...ya gonna run a 283 right? most likly have to box an a.the skys the limit.
I'm looking for an "A"...but I've seen several others for sale...just thought I'd see what others said about the newer frames. I dont mind the fab work...thats my thing...It's just that I dont have any front end parts. I'm thinking of a 10" Z in the rear with the '57 Chevy 210 3rd member, boxed or homemade rails, and a splitboned 4" dropped suicide, with a 4" Z in the front...this should put the channelled bitch on the floor. I'm thinking of raising the channel to a 4" and only doing the 4" chop...but with the growing rate of super low, big channel, megachopped sedans...it really makes me want to go that route, since theres not many rolling around Texas. I guess it'll never be a fine driver...fuck the roof, I was gonna make it all pretty but now it's gonna get a flat top with the chop.
I built the frame for my 30 a bone coupe outta 2x4 square stock...pie cut the front end and rewelded it so it tapers like an original frame...ten inch kick up in the back to get it on the ground...40 ford front end, split bones and suicide front axle...the square tubing i got is 1/4" wall, so you can drill and tap right into it, and it adds some weiht and serious strength to the whole car....just start of with 2 nine foot sticks and start a cuttin and a weldin....I think i paid about 70 bones for the steel tubing....
