Hi everyone, It looks like lm picking up a 283 next week for my model a coupe. I've been researching were to go for chassis up grades(boxing, buying or start from scratch ) to help with this decision I have to decide on the front axle. I like the current ride hight( the po did do the spring to lower the front) so is there any reason not to keep the stock front axle. Except for the spring work it is now all stock. Thanks Phil
Nothing wrong with using the Model A axle and if you ain't happy with it when done, it can be easily swapped with a later year axle or a repro dropped type. I like the look of a 34/35 axle with 35 wire wheels on a full fendered car.
Phil P; Don't get caught up in the, "Because that's how everyone else does it" Hot Rod build. With a 283 and not Fat rear tires you don't need to box the stock frame. That just became a spend money here and Me Too in the 70's. Trust me, there has been tons of A's built with small blocks as well as Flat Heads in non boxed frames. I have owned (and currently do) and built many and have never seen a broken or twisted frame unless someone else added big wide tires that actually Hooked up. Remember K.I.S.S. and Think for yourself, don't just follow the heard. It's supposed to be Fun, not brake the Bank. The Wizzard
Is that a reference to the kid that worked at Boyd Coddington’s and threw a fit when they were trying to make him box his Model A frame? If so I got a kick out of it!
All personal preference etc. I like boxing, but that is because if I want to upgrade stuff in the future the ground work is done. Only you will know what possible plans you may have in the future...
