I’m spending some quality time with my ‘33 pickup. It will have a dropped stock type axle, spring and hairpins. I’ve done the crossmember mod that drops the front around 1”- 1 1/4” in the past but on this ch***is the PO drilled out the rivets and installed bolts. Since it’s kinda half way removed already, I was thinking of removing the ‘33 crossmember and installing the Model A crossmember that I have. It looks like an easy 2” drop since I’m already doing major surgery. Anyone ever done this or seen it done? I’ll be cleaning up the frame and installing boxing plates so now’s the time. The cab is channeled 2 1/2” so I will have some work to do with the radiator, grille and hood. Just wondering if there’s something I’m not seeing that makes it a bad idea. Yeah, I know, the boxing plates go on the inside. Lol
I did a 33/34 ch***is for a customer in Italy years ago who had some specs and a parts list he wanted used and one of them was a model A front cross member in a specified spot. He was building his idea of a Jimmy Shine truck?.
If it will be sitting Low with A crossmember , Check look ahead Few step's , I am thinking deep C notch So maybe boxing with 3/16 in that Area?
Yep, I figured that there might be a couple C notches required to take full advantage of it. The frame rail is a little taller than the 32 or Model A in that area.
