Hey guys, I am going with a dropped axle on the front end of my A and wanted to know if I could use the original spindles/drums. Hope this isn't too dumb of a question but I didn't see any reason to not use them since they are in good shape, but thought I'd check first! Thanks for any help!
I believe the spindles will bolt up fin to a aftermarket dropped axle. You can always have your dropped. There are a few HAMBers that offer that service, like 5wbomber. The only reason not use the original drums is to move away from mechanical brakes and go with Juice brakes. I have heard that if you keep the car stock (meaning motor, ******, speed, etc.) the mechanicl brakes if adjusted properly stop good enough. If it were mine I would go full juice brakes all the way around.
Do you mean you want to keep the mechanical brakes? It's next to impossible to keep the mechanical brake linkage with a dropped axle.
I have a 28 roadster stock and was going to do the juce brakes. I got all the backing plates, and other pieces to do it with and after driving it a few hundred miles I decided the mechanical brakes were more than adaquate to stop it with. I have had no problems and the wife drives it more than I do and has no problems. I don't know about the droped axel though but bet some hamber on this site can answer the question.
Mechanical brakes and dropped axle can be done. Check out Elrod's post. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=332870
Damn, I didn't even think about the linkage being a problem. But I do like the post by Elrod (thanks 602 crew). I'll have to think about this....Thanks guys!
