I want to get the front of my car lower without Z'ing the front rails so I'm getting rid of my cracked and broken stock front crossmember and replacing it with a flat home built crossmember. What do you guys usually use? C-channel? Square tubing with the bottom cut out? looking for suggestions on the safest way to make it. I allready know I'll have to knotch the frame and run a reverse eye spring....Thanks....Mike
Sorry,I can change it if you guys want me to. "OR" I can post more, It's up to you guys. I hope nobody is offended.
***** *******s ...this is a good question....I wouldn't mind knowing this too...the repop crossmembers are a rip off.....
HUH??.....OH yeah the question for about $50 a repo aint a bad deal I think. You could use "C" for it if you wanted.BTW right click "save as"!
there are pics of building one on this site... http://www.the-antidote.com/one/1ch***01.htm I did mine just the same, but added a thick strip along the back edge. Im running a spring behind the axle, mounted to split bones, this drops you down another 3 inches. still havent notched the frame, but may have to.
Very nice Lowsquire. I think the axle out front like that will give the car some good lines. Far as the original question goes, why not give some thought to running a rectangular tubing front crossmember and doing the suicide bit like the car in the pic? Granted, this is a tube framed car, but the front end setup would work for you. And like Lowsquire, give you a nice look as well as getting the car down a bit. Don't go too low though, a little practicality is required if you really want to drive it.
67ImpWagon is running a piece of straight U channel in place of his crossmember. It will require a custom Radiator mount, but that's not a big deal. I like the frame notch at the firewall in the first pic, it looks a little cleaner than a Z. TZ
C9 do you have a side shot of that car? I would like to see how it all "fits" together - That AVATAR is the best!!! saved it to the hard drive
Thanks C9 - pretty neat frame work there. It looks like it is too far forward for that year style. But, that is some beautiful craftsman ship.
