Im doing a 30 sedan chanelled 4inchs no fenders and want space in the back so Im sticking with the origional tank. I have had it checked and repaired and will put some sealer thru it. I also had an inverted U shape outlet tube fitted inside the tank that exits out the bottom of the tank and touches the top of the tank so if a fuel line is sheared in an accident or the car rolls over the fuel will not pour out the outlet. I am using a 34 Chev dash which covers the tank and will make a bulkhead/firewall that will run from the bottom edge of the dash to the original firewall of the body. This should probably give some sort of protection in a major accident or fire. I think the original position of the tank is almost the safest, out back it can be ***-punched, saddle tanks can be T-boned and any tank inside is hazadous to you and p***engers.

I still love you guys, its all good....

Another thought I had was the tank under the rear seat of the Sedan, with some flooring over it, so its exposed from underneath and not so much "inside" the car. In other words, the floor would rise up at the rear seat and such. I could have pretty much any tank I design made at Wild West Rods no problem, even if it were notched to clear the spring.
This would mean the rear seat cushion would be minimal, but thats OK. And anything over 10 gallons for me is fine.

Do you already have it? How much does it taper? Do you have to move the seat forward? If so how much?

If you have a thread with this posted, I must have missed it.

I ask as I have the saddle tanks in my A (my Avatar). They are a royal pain. I am torn, I would prefer to keep the tank outside, but using it for the bumper seems counter intuitive as well.

I do have the tank. It does taper to follow the hull of the boat. I will post the demensions later tonight. I have the seat riser built and moved it forward about 7 which left about the same room between the from and back seat as my wifes Volvo. I think I can move it back some more though.

The sizes are: 38 1/2 long x 17 1/2 high 8 1/4 deep at the top and 5 1/4 deep at the bottom. Hop this helps.

Thanks, I had found the top dimensions, but I was missing the bottom 'depth'.

that sounds like it about the best idea. i'm still wondering if this http://www.atlinc.com/US/catalogmenu.html is the route i should go. yeah i know they are kinda pricey, but they can make a one off tank for you.

I have a one off fuel cell made for me by fuel safe. The thing to remember is the bladder doesn't last forever. So at some point, you either replace the bladder, or it's not really that much better than a tank. How long it takes to get to that point  as I'm sure the recommended replacement interval is shorter than that. I have to believe it depends alot on what you run through it, mine said it was 'certified' for all fuels except alcohol and Nitro. With the higher alcohol content in fuels today I have to wonder about the service life of the bladder.

Anyone who is considering the '32 style gas tank and mounting location may want to take a look at this kit. It says it fits 30-31's well, but 28-29's will need modifications.

    http://www.dagelsstreetrods.com/gas tank kits.htm

I'm sure the it's not everyone's idea of the perfect setup and I'm sure it costs more than most of us would like to spend ($350 just for the frame parts), but it may give some guys a few more ideas about how to build their own setup and what a '32 tank might look like.
