Brent, regarding changes and tweaks you have made to this Capsule of sorts in many ways you are still carrying on a vision from many years ago created by a former player in go fast. Do you ever think of the builder or even wish you would have met them to toss around these mods in discussion...

I too even though my more recent ride of a couple of owners do think of them when I add or mod stuff...Not really about positives or negatives, more their vision as we all really do what gets the job done at the end of the day...and back in the day things were understandably different technically, mechanically and even circumstantially...

Just curious...The Dragon's looking good...Liftoff is inching ever closer...keep on keepin' on...;)

It would definitely have been cool to talk to him. I’m in contact with someone that was around when the car was built in his dad shop. It sounded like he had some cool stuff. It seems like they spent some time building the car and when it got near the end just threw some stuff together in a hurry. Driveshaft will be done this week. Once the stand gets built I will have Kaedings make up all the hoses. I need a fuel filter and shut off if anyone has one of these they will let go of. I might have to put a more modern shut off to get by if nothing pops up

Anything special or specific about the shaft after building that mill?

I just told him how much hp it needs to handle. I think the diameter is a little bigger than normal. First thing that is going to break is the rear end haha.

I had a buddy come make a new tank stand. Hopefully in the next week or two I’ll have another buddy from the local sprint car shop come plumb the car. Making progress. A099DBAE-70BB-4EEB-BD94-29005239D2E0.jpeg FF2AB1F3-7BC7-4C2F-BBEC-7A3F9BFD9444.jpeg

I love all the pics of progress, @BRENT MAGGI but I'd love to read some of your thoughts or details.

It's been great watching the progress/evolution of a car that for a long time had been an inspiration of just a few pics of a rad A that was pretty much a mystery.

I thought it was the drag link or tie rod but I guess the threaded bore looks a bit undersize for the ends...then I thought the bar between the frame horns...well I guess we'll soon find out eh!

hmmmm...I look at the rear pushbar and yes it is a little torqued, possibly intentional but it also has some tabs on the end with 2 bolts per side but you could be right SS...this may be stage 1 of that replacement...Gussets and tabs next...

The plan has always been to leave the car the way it was found as much as I could. The closer I get to finishing it seems like the more stuff is changing. The interior was supposed to just be pieced in and it ended up all new. I guess I wanted it complete instead of just the headliner and one door panel. The tank stand I would have like to have left alone, but it was super flimsy even without fuel in it. I have to look at the car every day so I didn’t want to leave it a complete pos! I’m hoping to tie it all up in the next month or so. I keep “ending up” with more project cars and getting side tracked. I’ll post more photos when more gets put back together. Also, the tube is a spreader bar. It looks a little busy with it mounted so I’m not sure if I’m going to run it.

I mentioned a while back how I hate radiator support rods. I wanted something simple and clean. I think it came out killer.

Thanks. It’ll do. I should get all of the hoses this week. Starting to get excited.

Brent how are the sides attached to the rad...do you have a gasket between and are the two sides joined across the front?

@mad mikey has a innovative way of anchoring his Rad/Shell as well...

I have a lot of side to side movement in the upper rad when driving...

Looks aside those bars are all that's left once the hoods off, which I believe makes that rad more vulnerable to movement...but it's Hotrod right...less weight and looks cool...;)

I might add a something like that and it may reduce my side to side shaking...you should do a Thread on that...I'm sure many would have an interest...

It just has the two bolts on the bottom with the springs. The side with the rod is attached with the piece of steel to the two flanges on the radiator. It’s actually super rigid. I don’t think it’s going to move, but will see haha.

I have designed basically the same configuration for class 8 (semi) trucks. If it works there I don't think you will have any issues. Those withstood torquing and frame twist but they did have rubber isolators. Your heim joints should compensate as you probably won't be putting over a million miles on this. That would be a LOT of quarter mile trips! HA HA!! Cool build to follow - thanks for sharing.

One step forward 3 steps back. The pedal is actually mounted in the car now. When I took the sheet metal floor out the gas pedal was bolted to a piece of square stock that was laying from frame rail- to frame rail not connected. Throttle linkage needs to be made up, and the rear brakes need to be gone through again.

Is that bell crank original to the car or did you all fab that?

Wow, an asbestos fire suit! You know in California it causes cancer, birth defects, and gene mutations. But it is still way cool!

  26. Cool fire suit!

I like your HAMB OT stuff too. I used to root for Bubba Shobert at the Sacto Mile when I was stationed in CA in the late '80's-mid-'90's.:D

I'll bet you're probably right on that...I don't think what that shit causes is state confined though...if it is full of it they should coat it with something to seal it in...be careful with that Brent...

Made a steel box with 1/8” plate ontop to set in the recess in the floor. It will give me a little more room to move the seat back. Made another step backward like usual. i was talking to alky digger and he says there’s no way that thing is going to run on the street the way the injection is set up. after speaking to a handful of people I ended up taking his advice and buying all the parts and will set it up how he suggested
