This is some pretty hi tech***** here. My Tudor has no glove box so have been keeping the registration/ins. docs stapled to bottom of seat...I used to build these for bikes when I was building them. Simple waterproof storage tube. stainless steel 1" tube tigged ( or any kinda weld ) to stainless plate bolted to back side of rear license plate. Caps are furniture leg caps from hardware store. Slight bend in bracket to move tube a little away from license plate for ease of access. Neat and hidden out of the way. While I was at it i attached my HAMB tag to my license frame. "My license and proof of insurance, sir. I hafta get out and get it for you officer"
Looks Great!! Only in Texas the officer might Want to know what the hell you are doing going to the rear of your Ride! LOL Used to have a folder that had springs to hold that info. But maybe before your time! Ha Ha Great job on the lowering of your A good info. Thanks
yeah, i remember those used to wrap around the sunvisor. When I was a kid my first full time job was at Turners Auto Wrecking pulling license plates and any registration papers on cars in the wrecking yard. First place we looked for papers was on top of the sunvisors in one of those spring thingies with the clear pocket on them to store registration.
Nice but around here if you get out of the car you will probably end up against the car getting cuffed. That looks like something that is cute but in reality is totally impractical on a car unless it's a small roadster with no place to stick the registration holder inside.
Yeah but it's a little different when you reach for it on a bike opposed to having To get out and walk around the car to get it.
used them on 2 different cars with no problems either. but no problem. if you dont like the idea. dont use it. works for me and the guys i run around with
Kool. I did something similar but mounted it inside and also gave the passenger something to hold on to getting in (or if they were nervous). Tim
I carry registration papers in my wallet. Gives less information to anyone if they steel the car. Don't know me or where I live. Anyhow, I though Model As had this for a glove box, at least mine does. Canuck
Tim. mine has a banger. my passengers only worry if we'll get back home or not. inside your car looks nice. do u have anymore pics. looks like nice car
On the bike almost anything I do causes a twitchy officer to clear leather. LOL We used to clamp an empty flashlight to the steering column. JC Whittney used to sell clamps that you could put the flash light in to keep it handy. If you got pulled over you just grabbed the flashlight and opened it up to expose your papers, you had to be careful if you had other valuables in there. Anyway enough bean history, neat idea for a place to stash papers.
Thanks, It's California born and clean. I've got a few pix. Been mostly putting my efforts where they don't show. The usual stuff, brakes, bearings, suspension, radiator, water pump, etc., so pics appear pretty much stock. Have installed dropped rear spring and ready to install 33 axle, revers eye spring, 32 spindles and perches, ansen friction shocks, 35 wires with big & littles as the weather co-operates. Bit cold in the barn currently though. Sportster turn signals on the rear and Kawasaki' on the front always get comments from the bikers. Tim
Cool idea. That's why I never put interiors in my "A"s- you can fit a lot of junk in the doors in zip-lock plastic bags! (Storage is at a premium in these things.)
On the small hot rods like a roadster or model A I always put a pocket on the kick panel like the guys do on the door of a roadster as there is room to do this very eazy and some I do one on each side. This is a great place to keep all that kind of*****. It does not to be very big to hold all your papers.
Oh hell, like I need to make the local LEO's more nervous. I just built a glovebox. Used the most plentiful building materials in my garage...license plates!
Man that is clean. how did you get a Calif car back there.Thats about as far away as you can get from Calif.
thats a good idea. ive in the past had bike seats done with a small pocket underneath so when raising seat to access battery area the paperwork is there...in retrospect, i should have had the upholsterer put a map pocket on the back of the passenger seat
thats where i have been storing them lots of room...i think i was just looking for a small project to do before going in to watch the Raiders get their****es handed to them again.
37hotrod, that glove box looks like it is in the same dash that I showed installed in my Model A. Ii built the box part from welded steel and lined it with a coat of bedliner. Makes a nice looking dash. Still trying to figure out how to do some additional storage that is convenient to use while driving and a way to hold my coffee cup (think I have that one figured) so it is handy when driving but still looks appropriate. Canuck
I was trying to find somekind of cup holder. Luckily I had an old blower upper pully laying around heavy enouth to set perfectly on the floor between the seats and fits a 32 oz soda looks kinda cool too
Yep we're on the coast here and it's definitely a long way from Calif. Found it in a barn in Western Maine via a cryptic Craigslist ad. Guy had recently bought it from an estate of a couple that used it for national touring. He had bills to pay so it needed to go. I wanted a project that I could get on the road in a reasonable amount of time and wouldn't bust the budget so it was a perfect match. My wife even smiled (with obvious relief) when it showed up. I should have bought a lottery ticket. Tim
I dig the idea, though like many i'd worry about the cops getting itchy about me getting out of the car. Also, in my area punk**** kids would be looking to see what was in that tube. Similar design, off the header or below the tank, somewhere in the car. I may be making something similar...
Then there is always the "dispatch" box used on the commercial vehicles: http://www.lebaronbonney.com/webcatalogs/parts/index.html#28 Charlie Stephens
