Building a 31 steel top PU with deuce grille shell. I have a 32-34 Model B truck headlight bar to clear the grille. The only problem is that it still rubs the grille. What should I do. warm up both sides of the bar and bend it outward? Any suggestions would be great, with photos also.
Heating and bending can cause problems with full fenders. If the pads don't fit perfect after bending, the stress on the fender can cause cracks much later. Years ago on channeled cars with grilles that sat forward, they cut the center of the bar out, and bent a new center that was bumped out at each end. I'm guessing they bolted the pads to the fenders first, so they fit flush, then welded the center bar in. When I dropped a 32 bar, I made a steel jig to hold the pads in their original position, then unbolted it to bend the drops. Then keep tweaking until the pads lined up in the jig again. The problem with working without a jig, is that when you unbolt the stock bar, the fenders will droop a bit. I suppose you could block the fenders up first, with blocks on each tire?
