    Hello,

I have a 1931 Model A Deluxe Coupe. I have seen these type of hoods where they are just the top of the hood, and not the sides (See sample below). This is not my car, but would like something similar on mine.

Is there some type of kit that you can buy and install where you are just using your own stock hood (removing the two sides). Or are these strickly custom fabricated hoods, or you buy them as an aftermarket hood that comes with all the install parts.

    Thanks in advance

The one pictured is just a stock hood with the sides removed. After you do it you will have to figure out a way to keep the hood top secured. Some guy's use leather straps, some use Dzus fasteners. Either one is traditional depending on what era you are shooting for.

  3. When I had a Model A pickup I ran just the stock hood tops and I have to admit I used a lo-tec screen door spring stretched under the hood from side to side.

    It worked fine.

I'm sure you could fabricate or buy a couple of spring loaded pin latches to hold the sides of the hood in place if you wanted something that was more appealing to the eye. HRP

I just took the hood sides off and got a hood spring kit from Limeworks. works well.

You can use a bungee cord, with the end hooks bent straight so they can fit in the hinge rod holes. Install in front of carb. Install it from the back of the hinge holes. If you install from the front they can slip out due to the the hoods taper to the front. The trick is to modify the bungee to the correct length.....not too tight and not too loose. Probably will not work at 200 mph.

Thanks for the replies I really appreciate it. Will look at the hood straps. Was kind of hoping for something that hiding. I kind of like the Spring loaded pin latch. If I could somehow get those to firmly install, that might work.

I used bungee cords for several years as Aboner mentioned, you go side to side on the underside of the hood. They are not visable that way. You could also make up metal rods that go side to side.
