model A on deuce rails

Anybody got some pics of pinching for a 28-29?

Since I started with bare rails I set the width to match my body. I can measure it tomorrow and post the width. BUT I set it up for a mild channel as shown. I also recontured the rails to match my body for an even overhang.

 

I wish I had done that Moose, but the frame was already finished for a 32, and I didn't feel like starting all over again by tearing it apart. So, it is what it is.

Wow, I can't believe it's been almost a year since the last post on this thread. And it's taken me this long to finish my floor/body mods and repairs. I guess it's true that time flies when your having fun.
I am finally ready to pull the body off the frame, I'll drill my body mount holes in body and frame, reinstall the K-member, and put my driveline back in. Then I'll bolt the body to the frame which will allow me to do the steering/pedals/and other details.
I had hopes of getting her on the road this summer, but summers here are short, we'll see.

I guess I need to get my eyes checked, I thought it said June 2nd intead of Feb 6th.

 

hey, i started this thread. as it turns out, we were just discussing this. the frame i ended up buying is already bobbed and pinched for a 31 model A.

 

Not trying to hijack your thread, just thought I'd show what can be done with the A/duece combo.

This is a *****in thread. Answers a lot of questions that many of those who've done a bunch of em just take for granted.

As to one of the replies regarding "why the old way?", I say, why not. Who cares what restorers think and so what if we are following a restoration mindset. That just makes for a bigger smile and more complete sense of satisfaction knowing it's as real as can be. To pinch the frame or spread the body, I'd guess as many top drawer builders from the day did one or the other, or maybe both. Not all cars were cobbled up backyard builds. In fact some of the koolest stuff came from backyards and was great quality.

Again, thanks to all of you. This answered a lot of questions I always had about the fit.

 

Not so much a matter of taking pride, but whether you want the car to look like a modern take on a period car, or a period car.

I'm currently in the middle of setting my '29 Sedan body on my '32 frame. Coming along nicely, considered pie-cutting the upper rails to allow the body and subrails to sit flat, decided not to. Plan on adding some 1x2 metal under there, and pie-cut that to take up the space between subrails and frame.
I did have to cut away a large portion of the rear subrails to allow the body to set down.
Need to take some pics and update my build thread.

 

I like the pinch and a 1" channel. Just an opinion, really no right or wrong way.

 

Reviving this topic...more pics of front body/cowl to frame mounts appreciated. Fitting 30 coupe to 32 frame. Frane completed/ pinched "for A", but I need to stretch & spread a lot (1/2 -2") if I want 1"-2" mini channel.
I have steadfast rear subrail kit... but after cutting out front cowl cracked & rusty bodymount,
Who makes a front formed bodymount/stamped-formed model A subrail?
I know, I can beat the hell outa it, but I'm not a blacksmith? Especially forming R & L matching.

Pretty sure brookville is your only choice for the subrail extensions.
