Here's how she's coming along so far....it's gotta ways to go yet, but it's already come a long way....the block in it is just another 390 Caddy block I had laying around...the real engine fer it is sittin on a stand in my garage...so,...whadda you guys think?
Well, I'm at work now so I haven't been driniking and I can see the first two pics pretty good, but I think I need about a twelve'r of Milwaukee's finest to see much in the other pics. They already have double vision. Car looks good from what I can see in this current state of mind
We have to keep this musician away from cameras..., this is the second time I got a headache looking at CadillacKid's photos!!! It's hard to make "shakey cam" work on stills! The coupe looks great...(?) (I guess...!(?)) Mark
Love those chrome reverse wheels!!! Do not change them. Man I wish I could find me a set of those. Best looking wheel ever made
Nice work! Hey how is your Caddy coming? Did you get the deer wrinkles taken out of it? It would be cool to see that car again.. Justin
Looks good. I do get a little dizzy looking at the pix What kind of front axle setup? Look at that A-crossmember way up in the trunk
Hey Cadillac.......you got yourself a bitch'n start, Love them chrome reverse wheels too ! Here is a picture of my "A" for inspiration ....
Yeah, BigCheese, the white letters are pretty much rollers fer now...I been looking fer a set of wide whites on the cheap...can't seem to come up with any at the moment, so I might end up havin to break down and call Coker...let me know if anybody out there's gettin rid of a set of WW bias-ply big and littles (15x4 on the front, 15x8 on the back). Thanx-
Sorry about the "shakey cam" thing...I honestly think that there's something wrong with my camera at this point...I held the damn thing perfectly still fer all of the pics, so why did only two turn out real nice? Shit...
Don't worry daren, those chrome reverse are there to stay....unless i can find somebody that just has to get rid of their Radirs! As for the front axle, it's a '40 Ford, with '40 Ford split wishbones...it's set up suicide style with the spring behind the axle (model A front spring) We drilled into the 'bones and made tapered sleeves to go in the holes, that way, I could use spring-over the axle spring perches...just run the threads up higher on the perches, stick 'em in there and trim off the extra! Front brakes are '40 Ford with '63 Buick drums off a Riviera. The rear axle's a '55 Chevy unit...I got it fer 100 bones and it already had a model A spring mounted on it! Speakin of that, anybody got a posi for one of those?
Thanks Tim...yeah I guess i could do that, but with no fenders, i was really wanting the look of the bias ply tread too....I don't know, maybe i'm just too damn picky...fer those that don't know, this thing's gettin a 390 Cadillac mill punched 30 over to 396, full race Babe Erson cam (307 duration, 562 lift) upped compression (should be about 11:1), and six strombergs. Everything except the block and the heads got polished or chromed, and that includes the generator and the carbs...I'd also like to run a magneto on it, provided I can find one....As for the Cadillac, my '59 is just fine....got her all fixed up better than new by about 2 weeks after pettin' that deer too hard....now she's even better than it was before! Switched her over to a dual master-cylinder too...
I'm glad you guys liked the Model A spring perch in the trunk too! My buddy's making a gas tank for the car right now that'll sit right in front of that crossmember...
Looking good... I even like the raised white letters! Reminds me of the guys I went to high school with... Ok, so maybe you're right about the bias ply's being better. Hit your swap meets up early! BTW, what rear end is that banjo that's sitting there... my brother in Chicago is looking for a '40 rear end. Send more pics when you sober up! Sam.
Thanks Lukester...sorry Sam...that's my buddy's shop, and unfortunately, that banjo rear is his...he's been hoardin' a whole lotta stuff for about the last year cuz he's gonna start puttin together and sellin rods....yeah, I guess I gotta get to the swaps early and scrounge fer them WW's....and a mag...and a grill....oh well, it's gettin' there!
Hey! You and dad better hurry up and get that wreck on the road. There's no competition in Fond du Lac, anymore. I'm better off staying up here and running up against county cops. Besides, there's gonna be a new rod in town... goes by the name of "The HooDoo Witch" Just as soon as I can get out of here for a few days... Coupe's lookin' good, Shakey Jake... JOE
Thanks Joe....yeah, your old man siad that once the coupe leaves his place, I could have it on the road in about 2 weeks if I really kicked ass on it....Louver Dude already wants to race fer pinks.....come on...bring that which down here and we'll run it!
Well Jim C as cool as those look I really like true chrome reverse wheels. Those are more like smoothies, they don't have the little hub cap bumps and they are probably unilug. I bought a 66' vintage Popular Hotrodding magazine (back when Popular Hotrodding was cool!) at the last swap meet. One of the speed shops lists a set of chrome reverse wheels for $85! One from Wheel Vintiques costs that now. American mags were $39 dollars apiece. My dad said that he bought a set of chrome reverse wheels from Western Auto one time and he's actually thrown them away before because they were so plentifull and cheap.
Daren Those reverse style wheels are still made. Look through stockton's website and look for the "Milner Special" It has the bumps and all. http://www.stocktonwheel.com/
$39 a piece for American mags? God inflation sucks... You're right on with the price of those wheel vintiques...that's where mine came from...it seems like kinda a rip off, but they're quality made, and i guess that's one small price to pay to have somethin' cool that's not a "red painted steelie"...
