Ok, this is a real long shot, but does anyone have any knowledge of radiator muff, grille covers, call them what you will for using an 'A' in cold weather. These are the covers that go over the radiator and grille and restrict the majority of the air flow to the rad by an adjustable flap. This allows the engine to build up some heat in the cold winter months. This is a 'T' one on the bay at the moment, which is great but it won't fit the 'A'. Heres some detail shots of a later horizontal version. I don't think I'll ever get a genuine 'A' one even though it would be great if I could, so I'll properly have one made. Any pics/scans of these would be good?
What's wrong with a piece of hardboard like the rest of us? You've got too much money, that's your problem...
Ford actually supplied one of the soft type as an accessory for '28-9. There wer LOTS of aftermarket one, fabric types with moveable flaps, simple tin shields with opening doors, and some elaborate ones with numerous fins and often thermostatic control, copied from those supplied on big, expensive cars like Lincoln. They were common accessories up into the mid thirties, after which water type thermostats took over. Aftermarket ones are common at fleamarkets, but almost all seem to be non-Ford.
I have a fabric winterfront thats made for the 40 ford deluxe.. i got it out of a box lot at one of the flea markets.. I had several others.. apparently they were offered by some aftermarketer... i only tried it once (in the cold of the winter) and it was one of the only times my 40 has ever overheated! sawzall
