We've got the engine in place and are trying to figure out where to stick the grill shell and radiator, not sure if we can fit it on the crossmember perch or if we'll have to put it in front of the crossmember. We've channeled the car about 4 inches, are using a SBC with a standard fan (non-electric), and a '29 grill shell. Can others with similar set ups give advise on what size radiator you've used and where you have it located? Thanks guys!

Put your fan on. Move the radiator 1/2 inch out. Heres the radiator I have in mine. It works great and wont break you. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/32-Ford-Aluminum-Radiator-Chopped-Chevy-Engine-w-Cooler_W0QQitemZ350098068234QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item350098068234&_trkparms=72%3A727%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 looks like itll have to be just in front of the perch.
Thanks for the link skwurl! I'm guessing you're running a '32 rad shell? Yeah, we were thinking that might be a good way to go...
I have a chopped 30 grill shell. Works good. temp hasn got over 160 with tha rad. either. Here is my shell. Its widened 1 inch but not needed for that radiator. thats my old radiator. A short pump will get you close but I dont know if itll be right over the perch. i ***ume youre trying to hide the perch. Itll look fine. Go with th shorter pump and noone will notice after everything is in
I use 5ooo ford tractor radiators on my stuff. It fits 28-31 shells good and the in and out are right for sbc. Got mine new on ebay for $150.
Truth be told I'm surprised we got this many replies in before the mention of the SBC AND the discs... Uhhhhh, just pretend they aren't there That's the nice thing about brakes, they're easy to switch out...
put the fan on and see where you want the radiator in relation to the fan (both how close to the fan and how high/low) and , also where you want the grill shell in relation to the cowl- I used a 60'ish mustang radiator, it will fit in the grill shell.
My car isn't running yet., but I set my SBC to have the timing cover/water pump mounting face to be 8 1/4" from the center bolt hole for the front spring. This was based on stock radiator location, the thickness of a Walker radiator, and a junk short pump to measure off of. My crank centerline is in line with the keyhole on the u-bolt plate above the crossmember. I can bolt up a stock type fan and have good coverage of the radiator, and still miss the front crossmember with the fan.
