  1. I'm looking to build my first rat rod. I want a model a 2 door sedan. I want to spend as little as possible. Where can I go for good deal on a decent car? Stock z'd and boxed or aftermarket frame? I want to put a 302, 351, or flathead, whatever I can first. Someone told me the frame had to widened to fit a 302 or 351 is that true? http://www.streetrods-online.com/RAT%20RODS/RAT%20RODS%202/money.jpg

This is a link to what I am looking to build. Any idea of the mods that were made?

UH yeah, you might want to find a welding helmet because you are going to get flamed. You should do a few searches and see how people made out who asked about "rat rods." There is any information you could possibly need here somewhere, you just gotta know how to look/ask.

  21. that would just make you gay, with no hope of improving. go comb your hair.

  22. NERDS!! I can handle that,
'tis better to be NERD than suffer the evils of the RAT!

Yeah, WTF?? I dunno just got a Little literate for a second there.

Sonny boy, you better go think your at***ude through, this place is full of guys that have been building HOT RODS since the 50s and 60s.
People get upset when a real Hot Rod gets called a RAT, go away and learn the ****ING DIFFERENCE!
Then if you have any idea you just may find your way back here to get some guidance on building a real car.

    Gnfrs-
The term "Ratrod" has a rather Pejorative connotation here....
    but you probably guessed that.
By the way, the computer retards thing was way off base-some of the finest craftsmen in the world are on this site. Read some posts about 3WLarry's coupe or Rolf's coupe-there's a lot to learn here....

Well, I'm 65 years old and have been building rods since the 50's. I like RAT RODS. I like Traditional Hot Rods, I like nostalgia drag cars. I have at least one of each. It's nice that all the narrow minded HAMBers congregate on this string. Leaves the rest available for hot rodders who are not constipated!

bobw, I was wondering what the traditional ratrod looked like in the 50's, do you have any pics? And you're right, there are a lot of narrow minded HAMBers on here....who think that because a car is unfinished and has a little rust with primer and red wheels should be called a RATROD.... ;)

    well said...Splinter IS right.

This is a place for Traditional Rods...saying "Rat Rod" around here is like towing a gay parade in downtown, Houston Texas....its just isnt going to work.

You might want to try roughrodders.com or something like that...they tote around with that type of ride.

Dear Speed Addict, Yes, I do have pictures of my '41 Ford coupe with a hot flat head, wood 2X4 front bumper and no rear fenders. At a buck an hour and 16 years old, it was the best I could do in 1958. It was ratty, and quick for its day. From what I've seen, a lot of HAMBers have somewhat ratty TRADITIONAL rods. It might be the best they can do under their present cir***stances, or just maybe, they like them that way. Sorry, I don't know how to do pictures. Many of the younger folks on the HAMB see the magazine and show cars from the past. But they don't see the rods that we drove to the shows and left in the parking lot. I realize meanings are in people, not words and for me the term 'Rat Rod' runs the spectrum from well-built to death trap. All my rods are well built and can be driven anywhere. If someone doesn't like what they look like, there's plenty of other build styles for them to peruse. However, I have been astounded at the attention my '27 Chrysler Tub (made from a 4 door) has received this summer. I consider it a rat rod. I've driven it to Goodguys, Des Moines with a grandson along, and I'll drive it to the Hunnert Car Pile-Up. Live and let live!
