Can rear model A brakes be updated to the bendix type?

I think the front F1 backing plates would bolt up to the rear, and if a front F1 drum was used, would you then just have to switch out to the rear hub?

I think you also need spacers foe the backing plate center hole and the bearings. They are available from speedway and some model A guys.

Or what do most of the Hambers run on the rear? All of the Tech articles I find in the searches only mention the front brakes...

I think it would be near impossible to run F-1 front hubs on a model A rear axle. The model A drums are a tapered keyway design that you would have to replicate on the F-1 hubs. Not doable IMHO. F-2 rear backing plates are an option, but I'm not sure if the later (40-48) drums fit on the model A axle. Sorry I don't have any fast answers.

No, I think the rear hub from the model A axle or whatnot would have to be used, but it seems do able, just surprised nobody has done this?

Front F1 plates should bolt on--no adapter needed in back. From there on, it's a U-Fab jigsaw with no answer in advance. Here's the menu: 1928-48 rear hubs can be fitted on there, so the $64 dollar question is whether one of the several possible hubs with its original drum removed is at the right distance from the backing plate so that a suitably machined F1 drun can be affixed to its front or back surface and wind up in the right place. I think there's quite a decent chance...
