Hello all! Living in Europe and have been searching for a decent Model-A rear crossmember for my -32 ch***i build. Everything I’ve found is either to darn expensive for such a small piece of stamped metal or it’s just a u-beam with a radius that in my eyes doesn’t look good enough to be put on a frame. But still cost to much. So. I’m a hobbyist metalworker/fabricator but my profession is production engineering which means that I pretty much work with drawings and 3D-modeling all day long. I therefore believe have the capability to both draw and fabricate my own rear crossmember. But to do that a need detailed pictures/dimensions/measurements/drawings/anything and everything that is available out there. Could someone that is sitting on a model-a rear crossmember please take some time and provide some detailed measurements? When I’m finished I will upload the finished drawing and 3D-model making it available for everyone on this forum. Best regards, Lidstrom
I got one laying here that's in good shape...I would donate to your project...but your kind of out of my way of normal travel, but if you happen to travel to Oregon soon it's yours... Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hello Charlie and thank you for the link. Well it’s enough to at least make a part that would work, but I would have to look at a lot of pictures from different angles and make my own estimation and guessing to make it a real close look alike. But maybe that’s close enough. I will start a new drawing in the morning and see what I can come up with. I’ve already made 3D-models of the -32 frame rails and lined them up according to spec., so crossmember width, height and what shape it should have out on each short end to make it fit like a glove comes pretty much by itself.
Haha, that’s fantastic and very very kind of you Sir! Now I only have to go and buy myself a plane ticket and come visit in Oregon. I would definitely pay you for it and all the shipping cost if you have the possibility to send it to Sweden.
I can go to my local mail/shipping station and see what is involved in doing that , I have sent car parts to the east coast with no problems . If it is not going to be a problem then I can get your address from you and go up and find out how much it will cost to send it...I will PM you with info...it shouldn't be any problem...hell my car parts get to travel more than I do...I will get back to you ..Thanks Terry (aka Rudestude) Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
That’s totally amazing. I can’t express how grateful I am. Haha, I know the feeling. I’m currently working on two cars and therefore spend a lot of hours by the computer buying parts from the states because I want genuine and American made products. BUT, some day I will travel over there myself and buy the parts in person.
You know I haven't got anything really going on after next week, if you wanted to cover all shipping costs I could hand deliver it to you ...and I wouldn't even charge you for the part...just a thought....it would be fair though to let you know that I'm about 290+ ...ok 305 lbs. So shipping might be a little on the upper scale.......hey it was worth a shot..I can hear you laughing from here... Seriously I will try to get some info tomorrow and get back to you. Hahaha, that would really be something! I would die to see our Swedish boarded and custom service reaction when inspecting the package. That would really hit the news big time. On the plus side you would probably get citizenship here in Sweden after less than 24 hours. And become a celebrity. Thank you very much Terry!
