Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has a diagram of a model a rear end brake set up. A friend of mine has his grandfathers model a now and was trying to get it back on the road. He was going through the rear end and took the brake drum off and said the emergency brake lever and some parts seem to be missing and wasent exactly sure what was missing. So I was trying to find an exploded view of the brake setup to give him and he can tell then.
Sorry, my memory ain't that good, and it's been over 55 years since I messed with stock Model A brakes. But IIRC, the cross shaft under trans is operated by both the brake pedal or the hand lever and applies the same brakes, using the same linkage from the cross shaft to the wheels. Again IIRC, it applied brakes on front and rear with hand lever same as brake pedal. You may get better info on NMCA or The Ford Barn.
check the fordbarn.com they would be up to speed on the mechanical stuff. they are a great help over there
I know there is a exploded view of the brakes in my Snyders catalog. I can post a pic but it will be awhile as I am at work.
Very early model A's had this type of system, but most have separate service and emergency brake cross shafts and brake rods. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
