I started setting up the chassis for a new project this weekend, and I'm wondering if the height is in the ballpark for the parts combo I am using. My buddy says it looks a bit higher than he thought it ought to be, we don't really have a good reference to compare to.

I have an unmodified A frame, about a 3" dropped A axle, a 6 leaf spring from speedway, and 26" tires. With the motor and trans sitting on the frame (and even a few inches forward of where they should be) I get 13.5" to the bottom center of the front crossmember from the floor. Would anyone out there with a similar combo be able to take a measurement in about the same place?

  2. You don't have enough weight on it yet.

I have a flat crossmember, 25" tires and 4" drop axle. with my combo I have about 3" between the bottom of my 6 leave spring pack and the top of the drop axle -- looks like you have 5" +/- between on yours IMG_3112.jpeg

Fenders, no fenders, makes a difference.

    Can't read the one above.

Weight of radiator, coolant, a/c condenser, grill shell, fenders etc. Springs will settle a bit also. it all adds up.

not even a body on it yet.
It will settle a lot when it is completely built, then a bit more once you drive it

Thanks for the replies! I got my body set on the frame this weekend and put some other weight on the frame to help simulate having a battery, fuel tank, interior, etc. The body itself maybe weighs 70ish? pounds. I can lift it myself, anyways, and with two people carrying it its nothing. It will gain a little more weight after adding wood to it, plus boxing the frame, but still not a whole heck of a lot more. I also mocked up some shorter tires. These are 5.00-15, which are about 2 inches shorter (so 1" net lowering).

I am actually pretty happy with how it sits for now. I might have to start a dedicated build thread for this one soon..
