hello everyone. i have taken the oil pan down and then the engine looks like the pictures from below. what can i do? engine runs perfectly. is that bad? thanks for the help. norman from switzerland
Does,nt really look that bad. Top end is clean and cam is clean from running ofcourse. How about blowing out all the doubtfull areas such as the shims with air ? Then squirt oil in everywhere , pan on and fill it up. There goes your Saturday. This is my backyard solution . Maybe better to wait till the Americans wake up
If you kept the oil when you drained it, you could check to see if any water separated out and if so, make sure she's tight from the elements where she's supposed to be. Other than that, check thrust dimensions and such while you're in there if you dont want to take anything apart-full bearing inspections if you feel froggy, and put her back in service. If you didn't build the engine last, maybe it sat for a while and that rust has been there not bothering anyone. My 2cents. -rick
Pull the main caps one at a time check condition of the Babbitt and check the clearance now would be a good time to remove shims if necessary
Runs good?? But where is the OIL? Or am I still asleep? OKAY. Awake now. I blew the pictures up and can see the oil! Looks like the rust is under the oil. As if the engine was cleaned, perhaps rebuilt, then sat for some time in a damp environment before oil was introduced. Ben
I would not worry about it 1 bit and keep running it, but that's me. If there is no water in the oil of course.
thank you guys! i try to clean everything, maybe use some cleaning stuff like marvel mistery oil? use all new gaskets and fill with new fresh and good oil. hope it works.
