Starting my new dry lake roadster build, I am considering having the stock 1928 grille and hood (longer, of course) along with the roadster body on the 1932 frame. Haven't seen many cars with the 1932 frame and model A grille. Everyone seems to use the the 1932 grille. That is maybe the most aesthetic choice, but I really like the 1928-29 grilles too. And they make the car look even more early style. Or is it a total no-no? I have both a nice original 1932 grille or a 1932 truck grille to use, so it's not a matter of not having the choice. But I would love to see pics of 1928-29 roadsters with the stock mask on 1932 ch***ies. If the pics are of new builds, please keep them in the proper HAMB-style. One example, the Shinoda roadster
Yeah, the '32 p***enger shell is pretty common..........for a good reason. My '30 on deuce rails has the truck grille which messes with the heads of the uninformed. Here are some examples for you:
Look up the thread here that shows a roadster built by Malchom, shows the build from start to driving it to Bonneville. I may have misspelled his name?????
Just my opinion but most 29 on 32 rail roadsters with 32 shells lose something on proportions. Notice the Chopsticks car has what appears to be a 28-9 hood and good proportions. They may have stretched a 28-9 hood or shortened the frame, either way, I like it.
Got my ch***is together and just layed my -28 body on it to get an idea of it all. The wheels are not the ones I will use, but it's nice to see the rawness of the -28 grille mask with body and full hood.
It doesn't fit... It's just the angle. It is about 2-3 inches too short. Here the grille shell is leaning forward too, but you see how much I will need to lengthen the hood.
