Model A roadster is a roller *updated 12/10/09*

  1. That might work...still sounds like a pain in the ass. I'll kick it around and see what happens.
What firewall are you painting? The 35's? Will it be off white?

Barn job paint job is all I have ever done....And they turn out really nice, especially for a driver. Sweep and clean the night before to let the dust settle, then spray the next morning. A box fan in the window is the key, all the overspray will get sucked out side.

Yeah, I have a few holes in the '35 firewall that looked like they were cut out with a pick axe. I fellow HAMB member sent me one for free which is awesome because it's in really nice shape. I am just going to cut out the 2 pieces that I need and weld them in...perhaps this weekend.

Was going to go black on the firewall even though I considered the Vanilla white firewall. I am thinking black like you buddy's with the '36 sedan. That thing looked killer.

  7. He just shot some flat black on that because he too had some firewall holes to fix.

I like this idea . So much in fact, that this is what I am going for.

Maroon is a nice understated color Chris.

  9. I really have been leaning twards maroon for quite a while. Regardless of what color it is, it will be dark!

  10. Well, was outta town Saturday and spent today moving my brothers coupe out, cleaning the shop, and setting up the frame for my new car showing up Tuesday. Will be back on the roadster this week!!

Chris, You really have some great wotk ethics. You are able to manage projects while still collecting parts and what ever deal you come across. Looking forward to more progress on the roadster.

  12. Yeah, it's a disease, I can never just do one project strait through without diddling in something else :D

Chris, Everything you do is so clean, simple and uncluttered. Looking awesome. Do some YouTube's for us when you go for a drive. I'll bet you're excited about the phaeton getting there safe.

Chris, Looking forward tp the thread on ypur phaeton build ! Did I miss what type mill you will be running ?

  18. In the tub? Flathead of course ;) But it'll be a little stouter then the ol 221 in this bucket. I have a 59AB with a Merc crank, Winfield cam, Fenton heads and some sort of muti-carb setup. Will be backed by a 39 box and a 33/34 rearend. Pretty basic, like all the other shit I own :D

Now that's the way I like to hear a car is being built ! Really looking forward to updates on the phaeton as you build it. The frame in the garage next to the "A" frame is it for the Phaeton ?

  20. Yeah, tub's suppost to show up tomorrow, so I wanted to get the frame ready so I can plop the body on it and have it moveable.

Chris, Wish I was a little closer to help you with the body drop . Will follow along as you post updates on the Phaeton. Maybe you could call it the "Emperors New Ride" !

  22. Ok, so my girlfriend Jamie had some surgery last week...the short version of this is I don;t have much time in the garage right now with me helping her. I did manage to go pick up my decklid skin for the roadster tonight. The infamous Gary Harms here in Spokane punched it for me. He gets em perfect! Anyone have any tips when skinnin a decklid?

Make sure the inner structure fits very well before you attach the skin. Test fit then test fit again. Start with small tacks until it closes properly and has consistent reveals all the way around and it aligns with the bead at the edge of the quarter panels. Those are very nice louvers.
